Whoa, you just proved you didn't read anything about Canada from earlier
in the thread....We have promising young players and other proven
pro players and if Dalembert plays then I say we can stun A LOT of
teams. If anyone else disrespects Canada again I'll smack them with
    a beaver.

I know that Uruguay does not compare against the big 3 - Argentina, Brazil and Puerto Rico ... but I hope that they can come up with some WINS ... and possbily replace Venezuela to try and go to the Qualifying Tournament.

The Uruguayans are definitely my third favourite national team after (Australia and Philippines).
Here in my adopted country (Uruguay) basketball is quite popular (2nd and has strong lead ahead of Rugby Union) and the national league is growing in terms of level and fan following.
Hence, if the national team led by NBA Atlanta Hawk´s big man Estaban Batista does very well like in any country this could boost the popularity of basketball.
The national team is has a very intense schedule (currently in Spain playing exhibition games). Hopefully, this pays dividends.

There is one youngster in this squad by the name of Jason Granger (his father is Jeff Granger - a former import for numerous Uruguayan basketball clubs during the 80s and 90s) who is only 18 years old and has had numerous success so far in his playing career. He led the South American Cadet Tournament in scoring (27ppg - from the point guard position) and is currently playing in Spain´s Estudiantes (reserve squad). He is only 180cm and could be a name to remember. He´s father is a naturalised Uruguayan from USA and his mother is Uruguayan.

Otherwise, decent roster, despite absences, they should still finish second in the Pan American tournament. Whatever the Brazilian team does, they can still not bring a better PG duo than Sanchez and Prigioni and they wont be able to stop Scola in the paint.

As for Delfino, this is his chance to blossom..
Puerto Rico have better duo of PG than Argentina

Arroyo and Barea , but to stop Scola and stop Delfino i don't know hehehe

    MEX - Waiting for Mata
CIUDAD MEXICO (FIBA Americas Championship 2007) - Mexico's National Team is waiting for Lorenzo MATA informed its head coach, Nolan Richardson.

After finishing their first week of training, and after 15 players were cut, the national team, which is preparing in Ciudad Juarez for the FIBA Americas Championship (from August 22 to September 2) awaits for Lorenzo Mata.

"Right now, it is all about being selective. After June 8 or 9, Lorenzo Mata (with experience in the NCAA), Adam Parada and Omar Quintero will join the team", said Richardson. "I really believe in our chances to qualify to the Olympic Games", he mentioned.

The coach confirms the arrival of the UCLA player, who after some doubts about his capability will finally play. In regards to the situation with the NBA players, Eduardo Najera (Denver) and Earl Watson (Seattle), who was born in the United States, Richardson said that both answered his phone calls but refuse to reveal if they refused to play.

After that they will recess, only to get back together again in Mexico's Federal Disctrict (Distrito Federal) during the first weeks of July.
