Now seriously: another reason why Nenê doesn't play for Brazil is that he doesn't like coach Lula Ferreira one bit. In fact, the last time Nenê played for Brazil was the 2003 Tournament of the Americas, which was also Ferreira's first season as NT coach. Basically, he thinks Lula is an awful coach who makes this roster play like crap. Judging by last year's World Championship, he has a point.Last edited by stuart; 09-19-2007, 09:41 PM.

Originally posted by -K2-they still got Varejao, Splitter, Machado, Guillherme, Barbosa... now, if u where the director... would you surrender to Nene's claims having the core of the team playing for you even if you have those huge problems?

Originally posted by rikhardurI don't know if I agree with his decision, since if he played and got more involved in the issue, perhaps some things would start changing. He's an influential player, and he could use that influence to make the change. It's not by refusing to play for the NT that he contributes to it imo, although it may pressure the Brazilian basketball authorities to change things so he can return, but I think the other way around would be more effective.

Originally posted by rikhardurYes, he surely has reasons to complain, but it's his decision towards the problem that doesn't seem to be the most effective one.

Actually, the conflict is too deep. I'll try to explain it very briefly.
-In April 2005, Oscar Schmidt (as president of the Telemar club) and other famous male and female players and ex-players managed to create an independent clubs league called NLB, with the support of 45 clubs (For those who don't know, the traditional Brazilian Tournament is organized by the Brazilian Federation). So, these rebel clubs complained about the league being too short (only 6 months), not getting TV, clubs not having any power, and the federation taking all their income.
-Now NLB is some sort of rebel league, not recognized as official. But it lost many clubs, since the federation ruled that NLB clubs would be out of continental tournaments and its players banned from Brazilian NT.
-Last season's Brazilian Tournament was plagued with problems. It was suspended and resumed by judges several times, and ultimately was cancelled during the Finals. Tournament was ruled vacant.
-This season several top clubs decided to give up pro basketball, since sponsors ran away after this mess. Now the Tournament has only 15 teams (it used to have 24) and the NLB can barely survive, although NLB has TV broadcasts (which the Tournament has not).
-The federation also had problems with a player of the female NT, who got injured and later found out that the federation didn't pay her insurance.
I think Nené has a few valid reasons to complain.
