Well, the calendar thing is a little less of a problem now. Mexico's LNBP league has reportedly agreed with FIBA Americas to play their 2007 season between September and February (of '08). That would fit its teams better into the Americas League calendar.

Article from fibaamericas.com:
Americas League approved
BOCA CHICA.- In the FIBA Americas Congress it was approved the Americas League where the best 16 teams in our zone will participate.
The event will start on December 15 with teams from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Panama, Venezuela, Uruguay, Chile and USA.
“This is a project that has been discussed over the last few years and we have been working hard because our continent is huge, this is the reason that this tournament will cost a lot. After three years we have concluded that it is possible”, said Alberto Garcia, Secretary General of FIBA Americas.
Garcia added that FIBA Americas can’t do it alone: “We need the league, clubs and federations to help in this idea”.
“The league will be played in an economic way with 45 days of activity and we will try to spend the least possible”.
The 16 teams will be divided into tour groups of tour teams each, two in the South and two in the North, 8 of those teams in the South and 8 from North, Central America and the Carribean. The eight best teams will continue in a best of three series where the North and South Teams will play between them so the finalist can be from each zone.
“The Final Four will be played in three days, Round Robin format, in a location of one of those teams.”
He also added that Pedro Rodríguez, President of the Dominican League, secured that a LIDOBA team will participate.
“To be an Americas League we need teams from North, Central and South America, but we can’t have a league with 44 countries.”
“This idea is not just commercial; this will motivate other countries to make a national league so the players can develop.”
Garcia also said that negotiations with Fox Sports are advancing.

so the tournament will be played in december?
I really hate the puertorican league format
it's really a shame... I am really opstimistic that Caguas will repeat this year with Brannen, Bruguess, Fili, Andres, PJ Ramos, etc... but all of them will be playing elsewhere in decembersigpic

Argentina's Libertad Sunchales is the first team in the Americas League!

On an update on the Puertorrican league... the BSN Official Topic Here!...
Guayama Brujos and Fajardo Cariduros are leading the Standings with the Arecibo Capitanes on a close third place half a game behind Fajardo.
The favorites Caguas Criollos are 9th on the standing. Ponce Leones with Bobby Joe Hatton are 5th. Santurce Cangrejeros with the Dalmau brothers are 11th and Apodaca and the Atleticos are almost eliminated in 12th place.Last edited by J-Mart; 05-25-2007, 06:04 PM.sigpic

Uniforms:
Rotation players:
PG Diego Alba (1,80 or 5'11'' - 1980). Played for Junior NT, but never really developed as expected. Strictly a ball-control PG, but he is really fast.
22 mpg - 7 ppg - 55% 2P - 34% 3P (shoots as many 3's as 2's) - 64% 1P - 1,8 apg - 1,8 rpg - 1 spg - 1 TOpg.
PG Martín Muller (1,93 or 6'4'' - 1985). Great defender mostly.
17 mpg - 5 ppg - 54% 2P - 38% 3P (shoots 2,2 threes and 1,8 twos per game) - 79% 1P - 1,9 rpg - 1,4 apg
SG Leopoldo Ruiz Moreno (1,90 or 6'3'' - 1973) Played for NT in the mid 90's. A little too wacky sometimes, and a bad shooter. But he's the one the team trusts in crunch time.
19 mpg - 6 ppg - 47% 2P - 26% 3P (shoots 3 threes and 3 twos per game) - 56% 1P - 2,6 apg - 1,7 rpg - 1 spg
SG Marcos Saglietti (1,90 or 6'3'' - 1986). Defense, quickness, hustle and a respectable three point shot.
13 mpg - 4 ppg - 55% 2P - 39% 3P (shoots 2 twos and 1 three per game) - 70% 1P - 1,3 rpg - 1 apg
G/F Diego Cavaco (1,98 or 6'6'' - 1979) Played for NT B squad. Strictly a shooter, had a bad year.
25 mpg - 10 ppg - 59% 2P - 37% 3P (shoots 5 threes and 2,5 twos per game) - 70% 1P - 3,3 rpg - 1,2 apg
SF Cleotis Brown (19,8 or 6'6'' - 1979). He is possibly the best one-on-one scorer in the league, amazing penetration and a streaky shooter.
29 mpg - 18 ppg - 57% 2P - 37% 3P (shoots 8 twos and 4,5 threes a game) - 70% 1P - 3,8 rpg - 2 apg - 1 spg
PF Jorge Benítez (2,03 or 6'8'' - 1973) The soul of this team, one of its two long-time players. Slow but tricky as a defender, and great shooter. His offense is mostly made of wide open jump shots.
16 mpg - 6 ppg - 51% 2P - 38% 3P (shoots 2,6 threes and 2 twos per game) - 80% 1P - 2,3 rpg
PF/C Andés Pelussi (1,98 or 6'6'' - 1977). Played two seasons in Lega but returned because of his child's birth. Absolute team player with great character, great defender and added a three-point shot in Italy. Could play for NT this year.
29 mpg - 11 ppg - 55% 2P - 37% 3P (shoots 4,7 twos and 2,7 threes per game) - 74% 1P - 6,5 rpg - 2 apg - 1,5 spg
PF/C Robert Battle (2,06 or 6'9'' - 1981). The key player. His midseason arrival lifted the team from underachieving to elite.
33 mpg - 16 ppg - 60% 2P - 60% 3P (shoots 9 twos and 1 three per game) - 66% 1P - 9,5 rpg - 1 spg
C Pablo Moya (2,06 or 6'9'' - 1983). Does little more than hustle and rest the starters.
7 mpg - 2 ppg - 51% 2P - 43% 1P - 2 rpg
Libertad got knocked out in LNB semifinals by Boca 3-2, as fatigue wore them down.
