Former NBA player Esteban Batista (208-F/C-83) is the new signing of Spanish ACB participant Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada Madrid. He has signed three year contract with the team, while the details were not published. Batista is expected to add necessary strength and experience under the basket, where versatile post player will be heavily counted on next season. Player himself was a very pleased he is getting a chance to play in one of Europe's best leagues and he is hoping he will be able to repay the faith Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada Madrid had in him with good performances for the club.
Batista is a member of Uruguay National Team and he has a wealth of experience in Europe as well as in the NBA. He started his career with Welcome in Uruguayan League in 2001. In 2003 he moved to Salto Uruguay. After a season with them he signed 3 year contract with Real Madrid but was immediately loaned to Pozuelo in 2nd Spanish league where in 23 games he averaged 8.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.0 block per game. In 2004 he returned to Uruguay and after stints with Nacional De Futbol and Club Trouville Batista signed with Atlanta Hawks in 2005. For Atlanta he played 70 games in 2 seasons averaging 1.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game before being traded to Boston Celtics. After not being able to establish himself in Boston, in 2007 Batista moved to Israel where he signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv. In 26 games for the club he posted averages of 8.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. This season Batista started with Maccabi but later signed for Triumph Lyubertsy in Russia only to transfer again in January 2009 signing for Libertad Sunchales in Argentina. In Argentinean Championship Batista played 23 games averaging 15.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game which was a good recommendation for him to be signed by a Spanish team.
