the NCAA already has a tradition to it. IMO FIBA made 2 mistakes, giving Santurce the Pool A and Miami the Pool B. If you do a little marketing research you would notice that Santurce for X or Y reason dont have a huge fan base which was proved on the FIBA Americas tournament. If that pool would have taken place in Arecibo at least 6,000 would have been on the stands. And how in the world are you going to give a pool to a minor league team in the USA? do people in Miami knew about the Tropics?
Good points. I suppose it is just simple marketing. Actually, perhaps FIBA should talk to Indianapolis, which has done a wonderful job promoting and bringing amateur and professional sporting events to the city. I'm sure FIBA could talk to somebody on their city council and get a few tips.

Also, have a proper Final Four instead of a round-robin...totally anticlimactic for a team to win the tournament on points average, especially when they lost their final game.
Yes, yes, yes.
"I really like the attitudes of eagles. They never give up. When they grab a fish or something else, they never let it go. It doesn't matter. In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. It means that the fish beat him and killed him, but he didn't let go." -- Donatas Motiejunas

A D-League team would be a much better USA representative...do the Miami Tropics even play in a league, or were they assembled just for this tournament? Would have been embarrassing if they'd won the whole tournament.
totally agree, that would be #10
and the Tropics do play in a league, I think its the ABA but im not sure.

The problem is, both teams that applied to host it (Soles and PeƱarol) requested the F4 to be a round robin, because they figured that it's better to sell three tickets instead of two, and they also didn't want the risk of being eliminated in the semifinals.

They play the ABA, but i think some players were specially added for this league.

Uh... after the 2002 World Championship's empty arenas, i don't think FIBA wants Indianapolis again. Anyway, they must have thought playing in Miami would attract Mexicans and Puerto Ricans to watch their homeland clubs, I guess.

why Venezuela doesnt want to play?
The president of the Venezuelan league LPB actually said "we aren't interested in playing a league made for Brazilians and Argentineans to win it"... Add the fact that every year top Venezuelan clubs resign from the Liga Sudamericana, because of the amount of games (LPB plays 3 times a week, leaving not much time for anything else); and the same calendar problems as Puerto Rico, and there's my conclusion.
