Allot of strangeness going on here with Canada Baskeball. A bunch of other high level kids were not There either. Matthew Alexander Moncrieffe, Kobe Antwi, Coleman Stucke, Ladera Obang, all not even among the 17 invited to training camp..

Thanks to bench depth and balanced attack USA scored 100+ winning over Puerto Rico. Everyone from US team went on the scoreboard, led by Vernon Carey Jr. Some too many turnovers and points allowed especially in the final minutes of Q2.
Dominican Rep crushed Mexico 86-45 and will meet US today in an interesting game.
Canada beat Argentina 75-61, with Cashius McNeilly and Gaston Bertona leading their respective teams.

PR's two top players Jermaine Miranda and Andre Curbelo did not play against the US, apparently recovering from injuries.

Just watched Canada winning over a competitive Paraguay that stayed close in the game especially in 2nd half. Undersized South Americans were able to score both from the outside and under the basket with good percentages. Result was never in danger for Canada but couldn't pull away. Fine show of tiny Shemar Rathan-Mayes, despite several turnovers, and good shooting of Luka Sakota.
DOM-PUR and PAR-ARG to decide the other semifinalists today.

Andre Curbelo led Puerto Rico to sf after an entertaining game won over Dominican Republic. DOM rallied in the final minutes to close the gap to -1, but lost top scorer David Jones (34 pts) to fouls and PUR cruised to victory, 94-88. Curbelo was high for his team with 26 and Harry Sosa had some fine scoring from offensive rebounds. Jones has great moves and good hands but sometimes looks inconsistent.
Nine US players scored in double digits in a showdown vs Mexico, 127-52. Amazing first half of US team leading the way 70-20 and hitting 66% from the field.

Paraguay collapsed late after leading Argentina 42-34 in the third quarter. Fifth place team will get the last WC spot.
Haven't seen anyone look capable of giving the US a game yet, but no guarantees with Under-16s.Originally posted by FedfanMost ppl get childish when they lose.Originally posted by GuTOrefs in games of Spain walks with literally poop in his pants afraid of the Spanish players

US up 71-21 at halftime against Argentina. Argies have 22 turnovers and one of their players already fouled out. It's just not fair
Hate to say it, but whatever Argentina had in their developmental system in the 90's and early 00's...it's gone.Originally posted by FedfanMost ppl get childish when they lose.Originally posted by GuTOrefs in games of Spain walks with literally poop in his pants afraid of the Spanish players

US beats Canada 111-60 in the final. Vernon Carey Jr. who shot .757 from the field was named MVP.
All the US U16 teams have been pretty dominant, but this may have been the best in terms of "killer instinct"...once they opened up a lead it went from 10 to 20 to 30 very quickly.
OTOH, they were the worst US team ever at alley-oops, successfully executing about 3 of 62 attempts for the tournament.Originally posted by FedfanMost ppl get childish when they lose.Originally posted by GuTOrefs in games of Spain walks with literally poop in his pants afraid of the Spanish players

US team just completed a nearly perfect tournament showing so many talents (eight players averaging 9.0+ ppg) and looking one of the most effective ever fielded with a FG % record of .569. Besides MVP Carey, 2021-class Zion Harmon was a starter (and captain) in every game and finished with an excellent 3-pt performance. Don Showalter U16/17 record is now 55-0.
Canada couldn't do more when considering that a couple of its best prospects were missing.
Bad news for South American bball, with Argentina missing the bronze and lonely representive at the 2017 WC.
