this is the dumbest competition ever, 4 teams qualify and there are only 4 quality teams, LOL (make it only 3 and you have yourselves a real competition)

anyways, I'm sure looking forward for the Paraguay vs Ecuador game

but at least, Brazil is going to have a nice preparation for the World Championship

I think it's good, for the bigger 4 there is a chance of taking this as a semi-friendly tournament where you can test several players and rest your stars, with no real risks. And it is the only official competition the lesser nations get.

Still, Brazil almost lost to Chile and Colombia two years ago, now THAT would have been disastrous, since it would have left Brazil out of last years Americas' Tournament.

Exactly! It´s an unique opportunity to see players like Arteaga and Briones, good players from Chila, a country that isnt a powerhouse.

IMO, it´s strange the fact that Canada and USA always qualify to Fiba Americas without any prior competition.

I dont know if Canada would be a no brainer in every Fiba Americas with they had to face a competition like Centrobasket or South America.

If there was one, only one would go in.

They could make a tournament with countries from both north and central america.

Then, Fiba Americas would be played by the best teams from:
North + Central America (3 or 4 spots)
            Caribbean (2 or 3 spots)
            South America (4 spots)

Yeah that'd be a good solution. The system should also be changed in Oceania.

National Team for the south american championship - Jul 18, 2010 (by Facundo Iatzky)

The only cut player was Fernando Funes. The team played 4 friendly matches against Chile, winning one on the road and losing the other, while then they won clearly both games in Mendoza, Argentina.

                      sergio hernandez

there is one thing i dont like about sergio, hes a good coach, but there is about 30 or 40 top notch players in argentina. thats great and creates a lot of competition, but he negates that by having a base group who are mainstayes and only allowes 1 or 2 spots up for grabs. example he has leo guitierrez, paolo, juanpi, roman as mainstayes and allowes 2 changes prolly one fowrd who is pancho who is a great player and a point guard who is juan pablo fernandez who is the future. but there are at least 10 great argentina players who deserve a chance. stanic is second in acb in assists, fede van lock should be there in the main team. pancho jasen, herrman, bulfoni, gianella, prato. there are some players who are not in their prime or are having a bad season but are part of the GROUP so they are going. it seems that sergio's main requierment is to get along with the group rather than who's at their best or who's fit.

Uruguay named the NT for the South American tournament

                        LatinBasket.com

Jul 20, 2010 (by Hector Lopez)
Uruguay named the NT to play the South American Championship in Neiva (Colombia), from July 26 to July 31. The HC Gerardo Jauri named the following players:

Bruno Fitipaldo (183-G-91) 25 de Agosto - Uruguay
Fernando Martinez (170-G-79) Malvin - Uruguay
Martin Osimani (194-G-81, college: Duquesne) Trotamundos - Venezuela
Joaquin Izuibejeres (184-G-82) Malvin - Uruguay
Joaquin Osimani (193-F-87) Verdirrojo - Uruguay
                        Ivan Loriente (184-G-92)
Mauricio Aguiar (199-F-83, agency: Players Group) Vanoli CR - Italy
Mathias Calfani (199-C-92) Bigua - Uruguay
Sebastian Izaguirre (207-C/F-85) Defensor - Uruguay
Reque Newsome (203-C-81, college: S.Indiana) Estudiantes - Argentina
Gaston Paez (206-C/F-79) Defensor - Uruguay
Esteban Batista (208-F/C-83) Fuenlabrada - Spain

If Brazil and Argentina don't send a full strength team, which is most likely or at best a mix of A & B, Uruguay could be in a chance for a silver medal or even though I dare to say a gold medal even though this tournament is not the same as the FIBA Americas Championship. However, there are at times when Chile has shown that they could mix it with the likes of the "Big 2": Argentina and Brazil as well as the next two: Uruguay and Venezuela. I still remember back in 2008 when Uruguay played two games against Chile in Chile and were expected to come out with solid wins however, the Chileans showed that they could compete even though Uruguay had featured former NBA player: Esteban Batista and a couple of European - based Uruguayans.

Uruguay has improved a lot with Osimani, but they still missing a lot Barrera and Garcia Morales. They could very well be the champions with these two players. Also, it´s nice to see the best 2 U18 players from that nice uruguayan generation.

Brazil has sent the Team B. No more than 3 players from this squad will complete the main roster to the WC. The same to Argentina.

Venezuela looks strong, but they may have some trouble with local fans. lol

Chile and Colombia played very well the last tournament.

                          Any link for Super4 tournament^^^^

That's true that without their point man Osimani and swingmen: Panchi Barrera and Morales they lack depth but as long as big man and former NBA player: Esteban Batista is in the middle, the "Charruas" will be a challenge for the Brazilians and Gauchos as well as a handful for the mid-tier South American teams.
