New CBA Rules Allow Greater Use of Imports
According to pryuen at http://www.yaomingmania.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13432 , the CBA has announced new rules which will give imports more playing time.
In the new season, every CBA team except Bayi Rockets, which is linked to the People's Liberation of Army, will be allowed to have 2 imports per team. But the four CBA teams with the worst records last season can sign one more player from Asia in addition. These players may come from anywhere in Asia, such as the Middle East, Japan, Korea, or the Philippines. But they cannot have a duel nationality so no Asian-Americans can fill these spots.
In previous seasons, a team could only use one import at a time for three of the four quarters. The two imports could only play togeter in one quarter, which was called 5 men for 4 quarters. But for the new season, except when playing against the Bayi Rockets, all teams can play the 2 imports simultaneously for the entire game. The CBA calls this 8 men for 4 quarters, and this is similar to the rules for imports in Europe.
