Rick, the Independence Cup is different from the national Super Cup, right?

I'm surprised Petro Luanda isn't in the rankings here. You wrote that they lost some big time players, but they've still got Mingas and de Carvalho, so I'd assume they were still in good shape.

Yes, last news were that he had signed for 1º de Agosto. The Angolan league is one of the best leagues in Africa and as you may know Angolan basketball in general has been the strongest in the continent in the last few years. It'll be very difficult to know how much he earns I'm afraid.

For 1º de Agosto: 61% FG, 53% 3pt, 44 rebs, 28 assists, 26 steals Yikes!! ASA scored 20 points in the whole half!? That's terrible. Great shooting for Agosto. That usually indicates that the opposing team allowed too many lay-ups. Maybe I was speaking too soon when I was hoping for parity in the league. Maybe once the rounds are over (how many rounds??), ASA will be able to show something in the play-offs.

I don't and I doubt there will be one (the big game of the round was ASA vs Promade). I managed to take those numbers from a blog dedicated to 1º de Agosto. Imbondeiro was compeletely run over :p

Most of the time when I see photos of Angolan courts, the lights are so dim, but Petro seems to have a good court. (Of course, Greek courts look bad too...)

I see that Petro was actually winning in the first quarter and only losing by 4 at the half. They just got stomped in the third, like you said.

Thanks for the updates, Zlim and Rik.

I'm glad that Abraão, an unknown player to me, had a good game against Petro, but ASA wasted his effort. It must've been a good game!

This league is having a lot of very tight games and a lot of big blow-outs. It's weird, because I don't think the gap between bottom teams and the middle teams is really that wide...

Definitely. They somehow managed to create a cohesive team, something very difficult given the fact that they started a team from scratch and signed already established players (some stars). Normally "glued" teams don't work, but Libolo is doing great. They also have another fact on their side, Petro has been underperforming, as well as ASA to some extent. But Libolo are to praise for their work no doubt.

Lutonda and Jean-Jacques are obviously two of the best players from Angola and they played at a wonderful time for the country. Jean-Jacques clearly had the greatest career of any Angolan, gaining major success on the international club level, the domestic level, and the national team level.
