  • Hamed Ehadadi's injury is the worst nightmare for Iran

Kind of old new, but wanted information on whether Haddadi will be ok in time for the games: link

Iran suffers loss of game and Haddadi

(BEIJING, August 1) -- Iran's Men's Basketball team has no time to review the heavy 75-46 loss they suffered against China on August 1 as they are anxiously awaiting the medical results for mainstay center Hamed Ehadadi, who injured his right ankle in the fourth quarter.
China's 29-point victory earns them a third place finish in the 2008 FIBA Diamond Ball Tournament, which has been hosted by Nanjing.
The first half of the game went as expected, with China building an early 13-4 lead and taking the first quarter 19-11. China then went on an 11-4 run to start the second and then extended their lead to 37-21 by halftime.
Going into the third quarter with a large lead, the Chinese team began mixing-in different offensive strategies, particularly passing the ball inside. But poor transitions and ball distribution led to meager production in the quarter. Star center Yao Ming scored just six points – four off free throws – and China scored 16 overall.
It was China's strong defense, though, that clinched victory. They allowed Iran only six points in the third quarter, effectively putting the game out of reach. A meaningless fourth quarter turned into a heartbreaker for Iran as Hamed Ehadadi injured his right ankle fighting for an offensive rebound.
China has been criticized in the Chinese media for its lackluster performances in the last month, particular in its loss to Australia on Thursday. China had 24 turnovers in that game, most of which happened as the team's guards tried to pass the ball into Yao Ming. Helped, in part, by weaker defense by Iran, China reduced its turnovers to 12 in Friday's match.
Wang Zhizhi was the top scorer for China, dropping 15 points while grabbing six rebounds. Yi Jianlian contributed eight points and nine rebounds. Yao Ming scored 12 points on eight attempts.
Iran shot miserably the whole match due to China's strong defensive effort. They shot 33 percent within the arc and just 12 percent behind it. They grabbed 15 offensive rebounds but wasted most of them. Point guard Javad Davari did best for Iran, netting 12 points. Ehadadi scored 10 points before his injury.
Australia and Argentina will play for first place in the tournament in the evening
