After a couple of years with an inexperienced coach (Didier Gadou) and mixed results ( the main goal of the team was the 3 years ticket for the EL this year , and it was finally Le Mans which caught it) , the club hired a coach that has had extraordinary results these last 2 years with paris despite having quite average rosters . Herbet always put the emphasis on defense and , for the first time in france , will have some pretty good players , such as Ricardo greer (ex strasbourg , had a strong season in EL) , Mike bauer ( formely in Roanne ) ...Hiram Fuller might be re signed too . Herbert was IMO the best coach available and will certainly help tremendously Pau to achieve its goals .

I've heard rumors Mahinmi is likely to sign with Pau. Is that accurate? If he does is he likely to get playing time or will he be stuck on the bench like Petro was?

that's a good question :) .. The difference is that Mahinmi has been playing professional for something like 3 years ( in league 1 , le Havre ) meanwhile Petro had just played in league 3 when he signed for Pau . So Mahinmi is certianly more ready to step in and will mostlikely play more than petro . The coach changed too , and herbert IMO is will do a better job at managing the team .

Herbert is a very good coach imo and certainly an upgrade for Pau. He coached the Skyliners to the championship in Germany and sadly left because the club didn't want to pay him more money. Like Ballstorm said, he puts a pretty big emphasis on defense, works well with young players and knows how to build a decent team as well if he has a halfway decent budget (unlike in Paris). Exactly what Pau needs now.
