Philip, can you translate that article? Is this a guaranteed contract? A training camp contract?

I just looked up Lukasz Obrzut on Google. He's a 7'1", 265 pound center out of the University of Kentucky. That's a big man! The Pacers must have seen something that they liked, because he only averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds at UK.

It's the training camp contract, which probably will be valid for rest of the season if Obrzut will be on Pacer's roster at the beginning of the season. But seeing Pacers roster inside it's not gonna happen. I expect him to be cut in 2-3 weeks and go to D-League...
It's similar situation to last year deal of Cezary Trybanski with Toronto Raptors.

I dont think so ... he sign contract to May 2008, and he must be in Pacers to May 2008

non-guaranteed contract of course. He can be cut at any time. October 20th or so he will be free again.

Yeah, I believe any signing of an unfamilir name at this point may be a training camp addition -- meaning non-guaranteed -- he'll have to earn his spot on the roster meaning he won't see most of the 450K if he doesn't make the opening-season rotation.

Stuart

edit: whoops, you beat me to it, cheezdoodle

So please tell me why they give him 450K and sign "contract" to 28 May 2008  So if they will cut contract, they must pay all moneys to Obrzut

I saw that the Pacers have another big man going to training camp. I think it's Courtney Simms from Michigan (I could be wrong). If the Pacers have a center position to fill, it is probably between these two players.

I hope that they will give Obrzut chance... but I know that Americans like Americans so he have better chances :(

Matt if you will have any info, please write here :)

Obrzut has not had very much playing time. Last night against Minnesota, he played for 6 minutes. He scored 2 points, 1 rebound, and no fouls (good for a rookie big man!). In a game against the Bulls, he played 2 minutes.

It looks like Indiana is going to have Jeff Foster start at center with David Harrison as a back-up. But Harrison injured his back last night, so who knows? That leaves room for another center, presumably Obrzut or Stanko Barac, a 7-1 Bosnian. Barac has not played in the pre-season.

I'm sure he'll find something. There are always roster spots open for big men.

Indianpolis Star (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071026/SPORTS04/710260455)

The Pacers released centers Courtney Sims and Lukasz Obrzut on Thursday, bringing their roster to 14.

Sims and Obrzut, both training camp invitees, were long shots to make the roster. Obrzut played just nine minutes in the preseason. Sims averaged 3.3 points.

O'Brien spoke with both players Thursday and encouraged them to play with the team's NBA Development League affiliate in Fort Wayne... It sounds like both Sims and Obrzut have the option to play for Fort Wayne. I suppose that'll be a good move for both of them. Obviously, Philip, you'd like to see Obrzut get picked up by a better league, but maybe the NBDL is what he needs right now.
