  • Argentina : Emerging World Power in Teamsports

it's not only football and basketball the Argies has shown their dominance, they also hold their sway to rugby union. . . A testament is the amazing performance in their conquest of 2007 Rugby World Cup host France last Friday in the opening match of said quadrennial event. . . how can we rationalize this emerging dominance of Argentina in recent years despite troubled economic backdrop???. . . I guess it's resilience of the Argentinean people after experiencing those hardships. . .

The world may not only familiar of Argies' basketball and football stars but rugby union players as well . . . In the world map of teamsports, Argentina is not only equated to Ginobili, Scola, Nocioni, Hermann (basketball) nor to Heinze, Messi, Crespo, Tevez, Mascherano, Saviola, Aguero (football) but to Agustin Pichot, Ignacio Corleto, Felipe Contepomi (rugby union) as well. . .

These three rugby union players mentioned were one of the world's best in their positions. . . And definitely more Argies will come to assert themselves in international rugby union. . . this is a statement not a prediction. . .

Argentina always played well against France, they will cremate Namibia, but against Ireland it wont be easy. Way to early to declare them dominant in rugby

PS:call me ignorant but Argentina isn't dominant in football-spanked by Brazil in ConfCup and Copa America, eliminated by Germany in the WC. Also Messi, Tevez and Saviola are overrated

Besides football (where Argentina is top-10 although not dominant), rugby (top-8 since 1999 WC) and basketball (since 2001), Argentina is also top-class in women's field hockey and floor-skating hockey.

It's strange, because there are many more powerful nations that don't have so many quality team sports.

Well, what I may say is that Spain too is good in every team sport as they won world title in nearly all the ones they play but soccer. Beside, maybe latinos have more competition spirit, or maybe it's just a coincidence.

Argentinians are like mexicans, they root for the sport they suck at.

Argentinians have already proved their best at basketball

                  Mexicans are best at boxing

Both root for soccer, sport where they are so-so

For the past 20 years, Argentina's football has been much like Brazilian basketball: produces many great quality players that look like a world-class lineup, but seldom manages to perform on the field as expected.

I tell ou what. With a player like Messi I thought you would be the team to beat for a long time, but that just goes to show you rock beats scissors every single time.
