  • Eurobasket B divison

qualies continued last weekend but this could be more interesting:

Great Britain - Slovak Republic 77-52

Luol Deng scored 21 points and Richard Midgley and Robert Archibald added 14 points each as Great Britain resumed their EuroBasket Division B campaign with a comfortable 77-52 victory over Slovakia at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

Needing to win all four of this year's qualifiers against the Netherlands, Albania, Belarus and the Slovaks, coach Chris Finch's side made a cautious start with Deng missing four of his first five attempts at scoring.

But the team still built a 13-6 lead on their way to winning the first quarter 19-14, on the back of four points each from Andrew Sullivan and Nate Reinking.

In the second quarter, a Midgley three-pointer and a Deng shot for two heralded the first double-figure lead of the night.

Deng then drove for an assist to Midgley then drove again for a powerful dunk, a tip-in off his own missed shot and another dunk to take the lead to 37-20.

Slovakia, who had beaten Britain in Spisska Nova Ves in last season's corresponding fixture, had scored only eight points in the second quarter but were more aggressive after the break.

They scored the first five points of the second half but eight points in a row from Archibald, who showed no signs of the ankle problems that have plagued him in recent weeks, established a 51-30 advantage as Slovakia again laboured to put points on the board.

The Brits showed no mercy in the fourth quarter, starting with two drives from Midgley in a 10-3 start.

Two three-pointers from Reinking and one from Deng then stretched the lead to 32 points with four and a half minutes remaining before a late flurry of Slovakian scores reduced the final deficit slightly.

Great Britain now have a week of training, some of it in Belgium, ahead of their second qualifying game, against Group B leaders Holland in Almere on Wednesday.

    Austria - Finland 63 - 87

Finland rolled to their fifth consecutive triumph in EuroBasket Division B on Tuesday against Austria to remain one victory clear of Georgia in Group C.

Talented guard Teemu Rannikko had a sensational night, torching Austria for 29 points as the northern European side prevailed 87-63.

Rannikko caught fire from the arc, burying five of his seven (71.4%) attempts on the night.

As a team, Finland were 11 of 25 (44%) from long range.

With the Georgians cruising to an 88-60 win at Luxembourg, Henrik Dettman’s Finns needed a victory to hold on to the outright lead and despite a determined effort for three quarters from Austria, they ended up winning easily.

The Austrians did lead in this contest with three minutes remaining in the first half at 33-32 after a pair of Davor Lamesic free throws.

Finland then surged ahead with Tuukka Kotti’s basket sparking a 13-3 run.

By half-time, Rannikko had 20 of his points, and Finland led 47-39.

Austria proved resilient and chipped away at the Finns.

With 3:01 remaining in the third quarter, they had closed the gap to 55-54 after a made three-pointer from Christian Kollik.

Finland replied with Petteri Koponen’s three-ball and extended their lead back to 63-56 by the end of the third.

They outscored the Austrians 24-7 over the final 10 minutes and won by 24 points.
Koponen had a nice game with 10 points and 6 assists
anyone knows where will he play this season? the same question goes for Rannikko?

and the third game played last night

      Luxembourg - Georgia 60-88

Zaza Pachulia played for Georgians. He had 16 points and 7 turnovers

Markoishvilli had a nice game, Vladimir Boisa wasn't even there..
      anyway.

      Georgia Outclass Luxembourg

Georgia raced out to a 26-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and stormed to an 88-60 victory at Luxembourg to remain just one game behind Finland in EuroBasket Division B Group C.

Needing a success to keep pace with the Finns, who brushed aside Austria 87-63 in their game on Tuesday to improve to 5-0, the Georgians got 16 points apiece from Zaza Pachulia and Manuchar Markoishvili.

By half-time, the lead had ballooned to 50-26 and the remainder of the meeting was a victory procession as Georgia won for the fourth time in five games.

Georgia out-rebounded the hosts 30-19, Luxembourg struggled to compete, turning the ball over 24 times in the game.

They did finish with the night’s leading scorer in Martin Rajniak.

The 2.05m forward had 19 points and collected seven boards.

Next up for Georgia is a home game against Austria on Saturday in Tbilisi, while Luxembourg do not play again until August 29 in Gmunden against Austria.

No idea for Kopponen, there were some rumours about ACB clubs interested, which means he won't develope the way he should anyway. While as for Ranniko, he signed with Khimki. Watching him all year I can't believe someone wrote it's a sensation, if he could stay away from injuries he would've made euroleague top5 PG. Too bad he is injury prone.

i think you missplaced division B with eurobasket qualifying tournament (where Israel is playing now)

as far as B division the favourites are the same as usual Montenegro, England and Georgia, with Montenegro replacing the previous winners FyroMacedonia. Just remembered Montenegro isn't there yet. No harm done, they'll win it next year...

if i good know, 2 best teams will go to Division A and 2 worst teams from Eurobasket qualifiers will fall in to Division B. denmark sweden or hungary are the biggest possibilities.
