thank you for asking...
my answer is YES
its time to get out from isolation and conquer the rest of the world.Someone under 5 feet can be a great coach, don’t get me wrong, but to be a big man coach and have never played in the post or even played high level ball? C’mon now.

Originally posted by Tigasin my opinion no, it would be better if we hire european consultants and/or trainers. Our coaches are good enough internationally, trainers espescially the shooting trainers (for 3 pt purposes) are what we lack.
One benefit our players will get is the exposure to FIBA rules. It has always been agreed upon that our lack of familiarity with FIBA rules is one factor for our poor performance on the international level, so this exposure will mean a lot. Also, they will be exposed to the European style of play, which entails a lot of passing and tough defense. Our players can only get better if they go to Europe.
Our big men, in particular, will benefit from the training they will get. The stereotype of Euro big men as not too flashy but effective is not without basis. They will also get toughened up by all the pushing and shoving inside the paint.Keep running, big boy.

Originally posted by JonarSabilanoIt would be better, too, if we could send some of our best players for Europe not just for training, but to play for club teams there. Here we are, dreaming of putting a Filipino in the NBA, when heck, we can't even put one in the Euroleague!
Good suggestions, JonarSabilano. Another thing that may be helpful is for Fil-Ams (or other Fil-foreigners) who don't make it to the NBA to consider playing in Europe, Middle East, or South America. Then, during international competitions, play for the Philippines. This is what the rest of the world is doing. Homegrown basketball players should also consider playing in these parts of the world. As I said, the NBA is on the decline in international competition. The only reason why anyone should dream of playing in the NBA is mountains of dollars in his pocket.

foreign coaches dont usually guarantee that a team will be good in international stage...
ive seen this happen so many times...
so no i dont think its a good idea...
those foreign coaches have to be atleast coaching in the PBA to know the players...
thats why they choose norman black and tim cone to coaches because even though they can be considered as a foreigner they have knowledge of local players...

For me, for the foreign coach to be able to adjust to life coaching a totally new team, like Jordan´s head coach Mario Palma, he should be allowed to bring in his own assistant coach however, there should also be two assistant coaches who know the players in the national team."No hay poder en el mundo que pueda cambiar el destino"

Originally posted by SaskibaloiaA very valid and strong argument however, again though a coach might know his players would that coach know his opposition. That is where a foreign coach who has coached numerous times in international tournaments could help.
you dont go in to battle without knowing who your going to play and how they will play...

I think we have too many tacticians here in the Philippines that hiring a coach from Europe would make them uneasy.
remember why Coach Ron Jacobs was made consultant by SMB and Jong Uichico was promoted head coach before the year 2000,how about the Talk N Text coach Bill Bayno and Shell coach Bob Moran who eventually left their jobs here in RP prior to constant complaints about hiring foreign coaches over local ones, many coaches particularly the association of coaches were complaining that these foreign coaches are making our local coaches unemployed etc etc.
on my opinion, the idea of injecting European basketball in our system, particularly the RP NT would really benefit us in general because it is how basketball is played internationally nowadays but putting a European coach over a native coach or a foreign coach who has been here for a decade (for example Norman Black who has been going to camps in the US to hone his coaching skills particularly the Toronto Raptors camp) would be unfair and will create an issue among the basketball circle.
It would be easier if we would just put European consultants for training, conditioning and etc. but not the head coach.
*only my opinion..feel free to disagreeIt's ironic to see limited efforts from players with maximum salary.
I wish they would apply "sabermetrics" in those financially challenged PBA teams to acquire players who are value for their money.

i still dont like the idea of getting foreign coaches coz it takes away alot from the locals and not just coaches...players too...
imagine an international coach comes in...
not knowing his player...
relied on mostly filam
how will the affect the locals??
personally i would lost faith in the national system if that happens...
we have to have some kind of boundary somewhere...
and i think it stop in the coaches...

Some help from a foreign coach can't be bad at all. Maybe not as the NT coach, because he wouldn't know the players too well and because he'd work a short period of time on the NT, but there are many other ways a foreign coach can help. He could be leading a youth program, for example; that's happening now in Uruguay with an Italian coach, and in Perú with an Argentinean coach.
One thing Argentina has been doing for many years now is bringing foreign coaches to teach: some of the best (Riley, Larry Brown, Messina, Scariolo, Obradovic, etc) have given clinics here. To do that would be more of a long-term work, but would make national coaches better and eventually help produce better players.

and not of a high caliber 'technician'
they usually focus on the grassroot program which is good..
but for the senior NT they havent dont much in a way of running clinics...
