Anwil without stars

Ales Pipan who re-sign contract with Anwil, is now in Slovenia where think about NT for Spain 2007. He think also about Anwil, but here are little problems. Team didnt have moneys for Otis Hill and Goran Jagodnik - both players want earn more than in last season. Hill want teams from Spain, so he can more wait. Club probably in next week will sign contract with new player(s) - also with Andrzej Pluta, who said that he want end his career in Wloclawek.

Germany Welcome To :).

Here are the rules for polish/foreigner players for 2007/2008: minimum 4 polish players in match roster, 1 polish players always play and there is no difference in hiring players from Europe/Cotonou/Other countries, so you can even have 8 US players in the match roster.

I like some of the coaches we have in DBE, so it will be interesting how they will work with this rule and will our league become BBL vol 2.0, or not. I can see the most poorest teams going for a lot of cheap Americans, but teams like Polpak or Czarni (not mentioning Prokom, Turow, Anwil and Slask) can do better than it. We'll see.

I think whichever team (from the most ambitious group) will decide for 8 americans will have their arena full, make some upsets, but in general dissapoint, just as it was obvious with some teams in Germany or euroleague...

Prokom builds its power
Prokom Trefl Sopot is still completing its roster. Oscar Torres (195-F/G-76), Tomas Van Den Spiegel (214-C-78), Ruben Wolkowyski (207-C-73), Travis Best (180-G-72, college: Georgia Tech), Milan Gurovic (207-F-76, agency: Beo Basket), Krzysztof Roszyk (200-F-78) and Iwo Kitzinger (188-G-85) will be new players of Polish champion in the 2007/2008 season. The board agreed all terms of the contracts with these players and each of them should signature their own.
It is a great success to hire these players. Torres and van den Spiegel are ex-CSKA Moscow players. Venezuelian player last season started in Khimki Moscow but in the middle of the season he moved to CSKA Moscow. He can play as small forward or shooting guard. His averages - 10.5 ppg. and 4.3 rpg. Moreover the club is interested in Lynn Greer (186-G-79, college: Temple)'s services. American player has still valid contract with Milwaukee Bucks but his future is unknown. He played in Idea Slask Wroclaw 25.1 ppg. and 5.5 apg in the Euroleague games. His averages from passed season - 4.1 ppg., 1.3 apg. in 10.5 mpg.

any thoughts on Michael Kuebler from Gdynia?
Signed with Ironi Ramat gan yesterday.
He is a Hawaii product and plays very similar way to Carl English. He constantly moves, is a very good shooter from spots, can also create a little bit playing with the ball, a lot of times he surprised with a drives to the hoop. Lack of size and strentgh hurts him on defensive end, but he plays hard, compete. Quality guy regarding character. I don't know if he's good enough for what Ironi Ramat Gan is looking, but he is at least worth to look at him...

If he'l be a carl english equivalent that would be a Steal.
Teams like ramat gan, or simply most israeli teams besides maccabi jerusalem and too a smaller extent, naharia and bnei hasharon, just want to avoid relegation, not go into much great of a debt during the season and basically live another day.
No aspirations or long term planning what so ever, just survival.

He won't be as good as Carl English, he just plays similar style. I still believe that he can be okay for Ramat Gan, since he clearly got some skills and I don't think Ramat Gan will be so much better than polish team he did play for, but you never know...

Rizvić reached an agreement few days ago. He's already left the Slovenian NT preparation camp squad to sign the contract.
He's good defensive player, quite quick, have good timing for blocks. But offense, this is another story. He could be more aggressive and hit few jumpshots more. He isn't good shooter from distance nor half-distance.
He isn't players for Euroleague teams, but in worse teams he show more. Last two years in Olimpija he was lost and far from games he showed in Pivovarna Laško. But since Slask is more or less on the same level Laško was few years ago, maybe he'll be very good.

Changes in Kotwica
Canadian center, Sean Denison won't play for Kotwica Kolobrzeg in a upcoming season. The board of the club decided not to wait for his arrival anymore. How are things with Krause going on?
I mean Gdynia isn't that far from Sopot, if Krause was smart, he'd overtake that team and use it for players development in 1st polish league with home-grown prospects. Add 2-3 veterans able to keep the team above the relegation teams and you've got a winning mix of decent team producing youngsters for Prokom. A long term project but it should pan out imho. And I got the feeling he didn't exactly lack of money- don't know how things are right now...

Hasan Rizvič left Slask, in Slovenia media reported it was because of the atmosphere in the team? are there any other reasons beside that maybee?

1. Everything is under control with Krauze. Even if the club is still Prokom Trefl Sopot, the name should be more of Prokom Investment Trefl Sopot, since Prokom Company was/will be sold and club is getting money from Prokom Investment, where Krauze and his shares are not leaving anytime soon.
Your idea for club from Gdynia is of course quite good, but nobody will try something like this in Poland. Prokom has a team in lower division and they think it's enough...
2. He left because Urlep didn't like him anymore as a player. This makes Urlep looking like a joke in my eyes, since a Slovenian coach took well known Slovenian NT player and after some weeks he got ride of him, saying that he's not good enough. But Urlep can do what he wants because owner of the club is doing whatever Urlep wants.

sad to hear that, Prokom would be much more attractive option for young players in that case... at least I believe talents have more chances to get properly developed in their home country, than going to some talent stacking powerhouse abroad at the age of 16, 17...

Matiz Slask isnt Slask from few years ago, today this team have big problems with money and I think that problem with Urlep. Urlep is not so good coach like in 2-3 years ago, he have problems ... Polish Basketball Federation talk with him and they give him one ultimatum - If he want work with NT he must leave Slask, or in he will stay in Slask Polish Basketball Federation will looking for new NT coach.

Changes in Ostrow and other
Atlas Stal Ostrow Wielkopolski has hired Greg Harrington (188-G-79, agency: Hart Sports Mngm, college: Tulsa) to the PG position. American player had just played for Atlas before - to be precise - two seasons ago. Last time he was a member of Polpharma Starogard Gdanski but after the season's end he didn't extend the contract and chose the Netherlands. He signed a one-year deal with EiffelTowers Den Bosch. Despite the agreement the board decided to part ways with him after some weeks. Harrington played also in Cyprus, Portugal, France and Israel in his career. In addition he spent two more seasons in Poland to - in the teams from Stargard Szczecinski and Bydgoszcz. Moreover the club has hired Brandun Hughes lately. It meant that there have been too many players who could have played as a point guard so the board has made a decision. Sasa Stefanovic and Kenny Grant have been released and they're free agent from now on.

Scott Merritt is no longer player of Kotwica Kolobrzeg. He performed in three games and scored only 11 points and had 3 rebounds all-in. The board has decided about his release.

Marin Han is the next player who joined PGE Turow Zgorzelec. Young player is hot prospect for the future. He has trained with the team for some weeks and now he is the fully member of the team.

Andrej Urlep was fired from ASCO Slask Wroclaw due to loses of the team which has the worst record in last ten years. The President of the Club says Urlep quit the job but Urlep denies saying that the owner of the team fired him. ASCO Slask Wroclaw which has 17 Polish League Championship titles is on the last position in the league with only one victory in 6 games. Urlep is also the coach of Polish National Team and he's working in Poland for 10 seasons in a row and never left the team in the middle of the season. The Polish Basketball Federation forced Urlep to decide if he stays in Slask for season 2008/2009 or he works only with the National Team.

Changes in Polpak, Basket and Slask
Nenad Stefanovic (193-G-85, agency: Interperformances) is a candidate to play in Polpak Swicie. The team from Swiecie, after the departures of Mujo Tuljkovic (he moved to Basket Kwidzyn) and Jared Newson (he failed the trial), started to look for any other replacement. The headcoach, Mihailo Uvalin, has decided to check the abilities of Stefanovic. Serbian guard began this season in Zeleznik Beograd averaging 2.7 ppg. and 0.7 apg. during 10 mpg. in 7 games. He is expected to appear in the team as soon as possible.

Grzegorz Mordzak changed the team. He started this season playing for BPS Bank Basket Kwidzyn but after two months he changed his mind and terminated contract by a mutual agreement with the club. He has just signed the deal for the end of this season with Sportino Inowroclaw is Polish First League (A2).

Chet Stachitas will be tested by Asco Slask Wroclaw. American player was hired by Viking Gdynia before the season's open but after the club went bankrupt he became an unemployed. Last time he played in Argentina.

Perhaps he's already thinking about leaving (I don't blame him to be sincere given Prokom's disastrous organisation), so no big effort.

I also heard about this, but if he will leave Prokom where he will go  Who will sign him  And do you think that prokom can leave him without any problems

I really can't tell, but when a player's mind is elsewhere but with the club, those sorts of things happen (and I believe with Gurović they double).

Guards' changes
Igor Milicic (194-G-76, agency: Court Side) is new-old point guard of Prokom Trefl Sopot. Since some days Croatian point guard has been able to sign another contract because he has just broken off the deal with the club he had signatured this summer - Enisey Krasnoyarsk. In Russian Superleague he was averaging 9.7 ppg., 4.2 apg. and 2.0 rpg. Milicic spent many seasons in Prokom before (98-99, 00-01 and 01-02). He played also in Cersanit Nomi Kielce (99-00) and Anwil Wloclawek (02-03).

Nenad Stefanovic is new face in Polpak Swiecie. Serbian point guard had passed the two-weeks trial in the team and signed the deal until the end of the season. He spent last time in Zeleznik Beograd - 2.7 ppg., 0.7 apg. during 10 mpg. in 7 games. Stefanov has just made his debut in Polpak shirt - he scored 8 points and assisted twice.

Atlas Stal Ostrow Wielkopolski fired Marcus Wilson. American shooting guard was main scorer of the team from Ostrow Wielkopolski. He was scoring averagely 11 ppg. It is said Wilson wasn't so engaged in trainings and games and the lack of engagement was quite visible.

Rinalds Sirsnins is out of Polpharma Starogard Gdanski. A Latvian hasn't completely fulfilled the expectations. In 7 games scored only 6 points, had 1 assists, 3 steals and 5 turnovers. Thus it is a reason why the board of the club released him.

Other player connected to Polpharma - Jeremy Hunt - has just signatured one-month contract with Polonia Warsaw. Hunt have already made his debut in which he scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block. Polonia signed Hunt due to the injuries of Carlos Rivera and Tyrone Riley.

If that's true - just GREAT decision...

Prokom's (company) owner has changed. It's rumoured that they going to decrease Prokom's budget from 8 mln to 4 mln Euro (paradoxaly it could be good for their sport level...). And what about 2009/2010 season it's not sure that there will be any Euros from Prokom to the club...

Krauze's basketball dream - "we'll gonna be in F4 in three years" (:) ) - is finished.

BTW - amount of money in Turów next season is questionable too...

Hi guys, I've noticed a lot of love towards Gurovic and Prokom but who cares, the winners are always also the most hated...Anyway I've looked for a DBE forum for months and finally I found this one where there are lots of news and posts. Very nice job! Talking about the game 4 brawl, even if I love Milan, I agree with you that he deserved a bigger disqualification but now he's back and he won't fail two times in a row!

Yeah yeah the winners. Gurovic never won something on club level. Or wait he won Serbian Cup.

He had a good time with the NT and a fantastic game against the USA. But never was a leader. Good player but not a great player.

We had the chance to see how good he is as a leader on the EC 07 and in the last years in Red Star Belgrade.

Damn he won ACB and Korac cup as the starting SF for Barcellona, he was a starter (and scored in double figures both in euro 2001 and WC 2002) even in the national team who won everything and last year with Red Star he carried his team on his shoulders to ULEB quarterfinals and Serbian League finals. I agree that at euro 07 he didn't have a good tournament but ok, maybe I'm exceeding because I love him, but he's not such a loser.

You can keep talking about how he was. I'll just say you how he is.

And in Prokom he is always irritated "star", giving the team one big no-defence, giving "great numbers" like 0/5, 2/7 for 3 points over and over again, playing so many minutes just for his name...

In this finals Prokom with him made 1-3. Without Milan (leaving the team after the fight, 22-28 in 2nd quater in G4 and absolutly without him in G5) Prokom had 2-0... "Great winner".

Without Milan Gurović Prokom would have already won a championship of Poland...

Oh. And just one thing. Gurović back to Crvena Zvezda - that's the best option for Milan, for all Zvezda fans and for all non-Zvezda fans.

You're right, this season until now he's been a disappointment if I think what he did last two years in Crvena Zvezda but I remember he stepped up with clutch triples and free throws in the Polish cup final after some rough games so never say he's done before do or die games: the past is past but he's played great in many games of this kind even this season. Anyway does anyone know where I can watch the game live?

Yeah. He played great in the Cup final, and the Super Cup final before the regular season. But there is one problem. In Poland noone really cares about that cups. Maybe Milan does...

76:70 and 4-3 for Prokom.

Good game to finish very good series which ends quite a good season for DBE.

Great game by Gurovic and his 36 points (plus 10 rebounds) gave Prokom a 5th Title.

But David Logan was only one step behind him and it's really a big question what will happen with him over a summer and how big name he will be on the market. Turow future is interesting question too.

Of course Pacesas did a good job especially with Gurovic because he didn't exitate to bench him everytime the "bad boy" looked more concerned in arguing with refs and opponents than in playing like he's able to do. But the work of a good coach depends also on the quality of his players so let's see if there will be changes or not.
