  • Oldest Active Pro Players (Over 40)

    Hi Everyone,

I am currently writing and article on the growing dominance of Pro Athletes in there 40's and even 50's (There is more than what you think in there 50's) and thought there is heaps of people on here with a'lot more knowledge than myself in Basketball.

Who are the current oldest Active Basketball players playing in any professional competition in the world?

It doesn't have to be top level Pro, but atleast semi pro.

Not locally/domestic level as masters goes to over 80 in basketball and I play against a couple of guys in there 60's in A grade that can still really play, man they can shoot the piss out of it.

So it has to be pro and they have to be atleast be over 40. I already have quite a few from Europe and some lower leagues in America and Australia, But I would like to pick the brains of some true basketball fans and get the best one's.

This is just an example, Darryl Middleton was still dominating in Europe until last year at nearly 50 and just took the coaching Job this year.

Thanks for your help guys, please be respectful to all the comments. I really appreciate it.

Goran Jagodnik (74') was still playing in Slovenan league, as well as Olimpija the last 2 months last season at the age of 40, now signed with a semi-amateur club from Trieste in Italian 4th division (iirc)

One of the record holders weighting the level and age together is probably Veljko Petranović, the Zadar's legend that helped to upset the invincible Cibona in 86' for the ex-Yu championship title (losing that, might have costed Cibona a threepeat euroleague title) played untill he was 51. Petranović apart from being an ex-Yu NT member and member of some of the best european clubs in the 80ies also holds the record for Slovenian league games, scoring 101 points in just 30 minutes, even if in 2nd division only, after he has read a comment in some media that he can't play anymore. He was 44 at that point.

Aleš Kunc (73') had a short stunt in euroleague 15 years ago, was in roster with Slovenian national team in the 90ies, however played for one of the worlds best streetball teams out there one season ago.

Rolandas Matulis (1973) - I thought he already retired and plays only in amateur leagues, but found out that last season he still played for "Ignalina" in RKL (3rd tire competition in Lithuania, semi-pro), and still averaged 12.5ppg/8.4rpg/15.4eff, so wouldn't be surprised that he will play another season, guy is tough as bull, he is also policemen, so is still in great shape. This guy spend 19 years (1994-2013) in Lithuania bball league (LKL), and holds such records as most games played, most points scored, most rebounds, most double-doubles
