  • Juan "Pachín" Vicens dies at 75

    Juan "Pachín" Vicens died today at 75 due to renal problems.
    He was named the best player in the world in 1959 (after the WC in Chile) and was the first Puerto Rican player to achieve 5.000 points. In the 1964 Tokio Olympics he lead Puerto Rico to the 4th place, their best so far in the Games.

    He was nicknamed "The Jeep"

    He leaded his team Ponce to every semifinals of the BSN since 1951 to 1966.

    Starting Point Guard for Tex Winter's Kansas State University
    IN the Pan-American Tournament of 1959 he was named to the All-Tournament team alongside with Johnny Baez, Amaury Dos Passos, Oscar Robertson and Jerry West.


    Maybe the best player Puerto Rico has ever produced with Piculin Ortiz.
    His contribution to basketball in Puerto Rico cant be measured
