  • Euroleague 06-07

Since previous thread was gone let's reopen it. Spots for euroleague of next season (unless something change) are:

    Spain: 2 contracts, 2 league
    Italy: 2 contract, 2 league
Greece: Panathinaikos, 1 contract, 1 league
Turkey: 1 contract (Efes Pilsen?) 1 league
    France: 1 contract, 1 league
    Russia: CSKA(c)
    Israel: Maccabi(c)
    Lithuania: Zalgiris(c)
    Slovenia: Olympia(c)
    Croatia: 1 contract
    Serbia: 1 league
    Germany: 1 league
    Poland: 1 league
    Uleb cup: Dynamo

According to what I read in a greek article the formula for contracts is the following:

    Regular Season
    1st 8points
    2nd 7points
    ...
    8th 1 point

    Play offs
    Winner 15 points
    Finalist 8 points
    Semifinalist 3 points

    Cup
    Winner 5 points
    Finalist 3 points
    Semifinalists 1 point

Will be counted the points for each team of the last 3 years

This formula according to article is for every country except greece (will be added points based on european competitions performances in greece) so we could calculate and see which teams will get contracts and fill rest spots on table

In Germany there is no contract but there's a point system in place anyways, which is a bit different though:

    Regular Season:
    1st: 16points
    2nd: 14points
    3rd: 12points
    4th: 10points
    5th: 8points
    6th: 6points
    7th: 4points
    8th: 2points

    Playoffs:
    Winner: 30points
    Finalist: 16points
    Semifinalists: 6points

    Cup:
    Winner: 10points
    Finalist: 6points
    Semifinalists: 2points

The system is only a 2-year system, points from the previous season get divided by two and then added to the points of this season.

    Standings before the Playoffs:

    1. GHP Bamberg 42pts
    2. ALBA Berlin 37pts
    3. RheinEnergie Cologne 23pts
    4. DB Skyliners Frankfurt 14pts
    4. Artland Dragons 14pts
    6. Eisbären Bremerhaven 10pts
    7. EnBW Ludwigsburg 8pts
    7. Giessen 46ers 8pts
    9. Telekom Baskets Bonn 7pts
    10. EWE Baskets Oldenburg 4pts

Bamberg, Berlin, Cologne and Bremerhaven are the Semifinalists. This means that only Bamberg, Berlin or Cologne have the chance to play in the Euroleague next season.
Cologne needs to win the Playoffs to reach the Euroleague (would tie 53-53 with Berlin if Berlin is the opponent in the finals, but the points from this season would count more than the ones from last season). Berlin needs to win the championship to reach the Euroleague as well (would bring them to 67pts), while Bamberg could afford to lose the finals if Alba Berlin doesn't reach the finals - if Berlin reaches the finals Bamberg needs to win the championship to play in the Euroleague next season - or even to lose the Semifinals if Bremerhaven wins the playoffs.

Akis, you can add TAU to this list. Yesterday, with Joventut's win vs Barcelona TAU obtained one of the two contracts from ACB

as far as I know, those two teams will be Efes Pilsen and Ăślker, since both have contracts. but, as Akis wrote, the official site now says only 1 contract , which will belong to Efes for sure.

I'll try to learn the real situation and if Besiktas has any chances...

Do you mean TAU has secured one of the top 2 places in rankings? Could you provide us the current rankings?

According to http://www.euroleague.net/noticia.js...nada=1&id=1903 1 license is granded to turkish league but since turkish leage is not member of uleb license can be granded to club for 1 year I guess. Maybe there is something behind scenes we don't know it yet

Olimpija will play in EL due to contract next year... eventhough Slovan is likely to kick our a$$es in the finals.

In Croatia I've read somewhere that Zadar had something like 8 points advantage over Cibona after the cup... if they manage to build their arena fast enough they could be a nice refreshement for euroleague, I'd love to see them in euroleague just because of their fans, i'm kind of missing teams like Zadar or Aris in euroleague...

Does Aris have a chance to play in the EL even when they don't make it to the first 3 in Greece?

Do they have a chance if Dynamo becomes 1st or 2nd in the russian league?

No. They won't have a chance then, unless the team that gets the 3rd EL spot decides not to play in the EL or is not allowed to play there by ULEB.

Dynamo already got eliminated in Russia, the Season is over for them.

According to uleb poland has one spot to euroleague and this mean that champion will play just for one year and next year the next champion. So winner will not play for 3 years but for 1

Russia has one participant in EL and is CSKA for 3 years. So Dynamo's results in russian league doesn't matter at all. Even if Dynamo or any other russian club is champion in EL will be CSKA. And of course Dynamo has been eliminated from semis. It could have happened the opposite. If Aris had won uleb cup and had won spot through greek league then Dynamo would have used the uleb cup spot as finalist.

                            ahhh?!
                            1. so far it was the champion every year - are you saying they change it?!
                            2. if they change it - how come there is no consideration in the last seasons. no country bases it 3-years contract (which i'm not sure poland has) on one year only (well, israel, slovenia and russia and maybe turkey seem to have no written criteria at all...).
                            3. in case wloclawek makes it - will you joing the league this time? no airport problem this time?
