1. Italy 2-0
2. Spain 1-1
3. Finland 1-1
4. Slovenia 1-1
5. Croatia 1-1
6. Greece 0-2

Greece is the only team lagging behind a bit, which means all of the teams have realistical chances for advancing into quarterfinals. The hosts, Croats and Italians might have a good advantage as they're expected to have big and loud fan support, which in acustic Stožice arena can mean everything.

I feel like 3 of the 4 SF teams might come from this group. Spain is certainly qualifying, probably undefeated. Italy already has two wins so they only need one more to qualify. Slovenia is playing at home. These three teams are favored to qualify, I think. The other three teams are fighting for the last spot. Right now I would give the edge to Croatia. We might see all remaining Group B and C teams qualify for the QFs.

Spain really isn't playing all that dominant to be 100% expected to go undefeated in this round. Croatia played terrible against them, while with Czech and Georgia that are overal very good teams the talent difference was simply too big nevertheless. I mean they can go undefeated but a loss vs. Italy or Greece wouldn't come as a surprise to me as they've obviously got some problems with their game.

I agree with you JPF. :) I said they were certain to qualify, probably undefeated. They might lose one game but I find it hard to believe that they will lose 2 games and not qualify.

I'm not exactly predicting loses either :) however it's yet to be seen what happens if Gasol actualy gets cut off and the opposing team has the guards able to at least borderline follow the Spanish backcourt. I think many Spanish posters will agree with me that in those short cases when that seemed to be an issue for that minute or two (in short spans, basicaly happened at every game I've seen, no matter huge wins), Spain got saved big time by Calderon or Rudy's long range. That was effective, however I don't consider it healthy for a team of Spain's caliber to rely on long range shots.

JPF - Do you think we might see a 9-0 W-L for Group C teams?

ufff nope. If Croatia played all their games at 17.45, with full arena on their side I'd maybee consider it as some distinct possibility, yet still wouldn't believe it would happen. Slovenia showcased it's weaknesses as well and as I said Spain is definately beatable. Finland might end up 0-3, yet I hope that wouldn't be the case and they could snatch somehow into the quarters.

What a nightmare it would be, but I think it's possible (almost likely).

ITA-CRO the most crucial game of this group IMO

Greece going 0-3? No way imo... now they can play for real, no more mistakes allowed...

Group C team 9-0 W-L record looks more likely now.

1. Italy 2-1
2. Slovenia 2-1
3. Croatia 2-1
4. Spain 1-2
5. Greece 1-2
6. Finland 1-2

Quite some interesting games to follow. Greece might have the toughest job out of them all to qualify, Croatia and Italy should likely have quite some fan support, Slovenia as well naturaly... the question is can Spain slip once again against Italy?

Spain will win both games. Finland will lose both games. So that makes

Slovenia 3-2 or 4-1
Spain 3-2
Italy 3-2 or 2-3
Finland 1-4

Beyond that, the key games are CRO-ITA, GRE-SLO, GRE-CRO. These will determine everything. Greece needs to win both games probably. It is going to be very tough.

Spain is a nightmare match up for Italy simply because of Mark Gasol. As with Slovenia, Cusin will get into foul trouble early, and Gasol, who is offensively leaps and bound better then Begic and Vidmar will have a monster game, all of Italy's PFs will have to trouble him, which will leave a lot of room for Spanish shooters, of which they have a bundle.

unless Slovenia gets in situation where they can choose "easier opponent" with losing to Finland, we might be getting a circle with four teams with 3-2 :)
(that would require Spain and Greece winning both their games)

Greece, Spain, Italy, Slovenia- standings would be 1) Gre 2) Slo 3) Esp 4) Ita
Greece, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia- standings would be 1) Gre 2) Esp 3) Slo 4) Cro

Very unpredictable group. Italy has chances against Spain imo. Slovenia can "afford" to lose a game while Greece is against the wall.

If CRO beat GRE, then ESP can choose from SRB and FRA..

you're right but Italy can do the same :)

If ESP win they finish 3rd and play LTU and if they lose they finish 4th and play SRB.

So if both Slovenia and Croatia win, Croatia is first in the group and Slovenia second right?

It's the easiest tie breaker there is - if two teams have the same number of wins, team that won against tied team always comes on top.

in theory there are 8 combinations, but in reality i think there are 2-3...

1) Greece win -> Esp must win against not-interested-Italy (plus they probably want Esp to go through as that way 7 goes to WC) -> Slo must win for 1st place --> 1) Slo 2) Esp 3) Cro 4) Ita

quarters: Slo-Ukr (95-5), Esp- Fra (60-40), Cro- Lit (45-55), Ita-Srb (49-51)

2/3) Cro win -> regardless of other games 1) Cro 2) Slo... 3/4) Esp & Ita choosing opponents

quarters: Cro-Ukr (90-10), Slo- Fra (50-50), Esp-Lit (60-40), Ita-Srb (49-51) or Ita-Lit (40-60), Esp- Srb (75-25)

Completely agree!

Let's hope GRE will win.. I don't want to see a ITA-ESP where both want to loose (one of them, ITA, is enough... Datome will probably miss the game..)

Anyway I think 2/3 scenario is the most likely.. since GRE already know they are eliminated (and if they loose, ESP must win and can't choose opponent!) and 'cause CRO want to play UKR and not FRA

So quarters

Cro-Ukr (90-10), Slo- Fra (50-50), Esp-Lit (60-40), Ita-Srb (49-51)

did you just copy/paste my prediction for quarters, or you agree with my percentages? :)

anyway, i have a feeling that 6 of 8 teams would be happy with 1) Cro 2) Slo 3) Spa 4) Ita... other two are Slovenia and Lithuania, but they can't choose much
