View Full Version : Philippines will finish 3rd place

1. Iran
2. China
3. Philippines
4. South Korea
5. Lebanon
6. Taipei
7. Qatar
8. Jordan

Our lineup presents challenges to the east asian teams, we will be displaying four players standing 6'10 up with good mobility. We would now have superior advantage over finese teams such as Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Lebanon, Qatar and Jordan would now have no advantage in rebounding because of our bigs and we will win over them because of our speed. That leads us to third place.

To Jordanian NT, please eliminate Iran and China so that we will fight for the GOLD MEDAL. Either way, we will both benefit from this. hehehehe

provided we are from separate brackets. :)

Philippines is going for the gold this time especially that Gilas Pilipinas II is now composed of pro players from the PBA unlike the last fiba were our available players are coming from the college level that time..if no injuries will happen to our players then championship is a big possibility.
Good luck to both teams..;)

This made me laugh. We are lucky if we place 3rd or 4th cause I'm sure others team will come prepare for us come August 1-11. Lets hope for the best and cheer our team to give our opponents hell come game time.

with homecourt advantage, I think anything is possible for Team Pilipinas.

don't get me wrong. if Philippines plays in Manila with 18,000 screaming fans, any team in asia will find it hard to win against us.

Beating Jordan, Taiwan and Japan looks so much doable when you look at the other group :D

1 super game in the semis and its a SILVER at least :D

Much satisfied with 4th and Happy with 3rd. A Miraculous Silver or GOld would be the Tournament of a lifetime for me :D

For Group E after round 2 PHI will finish 1st. If PHI will win on the cross-over game perhaps against Kazahkstan. the PHI momentum will be strong PHI will carry this to win GOLD.

Having watched a few games in the first 2 days, Group E looks like a dog fight. None of the teams can play defense so they are probably at the same level. Phillipines, being the host and with a somewhat deeper bench, probably will finish 1st, but is not guaranteed. Chinese Taipei can't hit free throws so probably 2nd. I'm not impressed by Japan at all, I think Qatar and Jordan will finish 3rd and 4th (not necessarily in this order). The way it is in Group F right now, China could very easily slip to 3rd place with a loss to Iran, with Korea 2nd. I suspect Group E teams may rather face Korea than China so this may affect seedings in Group E as well. If China does fall to #3 in the group and nothing unusual happens, it will be a semi-final clash against Iran. IMO, Iran, Korea and China still look like the top 3 teams out there, and therefore finishing atop in Group E is a must for any top-4 aspirant there.

If what you say will pan out then our Gilas team will try hard to be the 1st place to possibly meet Kazakhstan in the QF, which is the easier route. If ever Korea wins its QF and us winning also then they'll meet again in the semis. It would be one heck of a semis if it ever happens.

Yup, this will be a rematch of the 2002 Asian Games in Busan. But now on our home court.

I think so long the Philippines finish in top 4, they will be in Spain next year. FIBA will award them a wild card. If it's Chinese Taipei, then I'm not sure.

We might have to compete with European teams which is seeing an increased number of good teams every Eurobasket edition. We have a chance but it will be sort of a long shot given that teams from Africa, Americas, and Europe tend to perform better in the international arena compared to Asian teams outside China, Iran, and Korea.

I wrote this after the 2nd day, before CT beat Philippines. I was right that Japan wouldn't make it. There is still a chance for Group E to finish in this order: PHI-TPE-QAT, and that is Qatar must beat CT by 1 to 7 points, per my calculation. If Qatar beats CT by a little more than 7, it's PHI-QAT-TPE, and if they beat CT by roughly 15 or more it will be QAT-PHI-TPE. A CT win would result in TPE-PHI-QAT.

All this calculation is assuming, of course, that PHI doesn't blatantly lose to HK on purpose, in which case it would be QAT-TPE-PHI or TPE-QAT-PHI, depending on the outcome of the CT-Qatar game.

And the fact that we've hosted this tourney already...but if China-Philippines qf matchup happen.. it might be different scenarion

4 wildcard entries a zone shouldn't have more than 2 slots. for the past years the trend is 2 euro teams 1 americas and 1 asian..

so the up to 2 per zone would only implemented by next year..and yeah I was thinking that Canada make it via wildcard

Philippines still managed to get #1 thanks to Qatar! The real funny thing is in the Chinese Taipei win against Philippines, Lu Cheng-ju had an uncontested layup opportunity in the dying seconds but decided not to score! Now they are going to face China in the quarters and things are not looking so good.

^ I think SF will be China-Iran vs. Philippines vs. Korea.

I redid the calculation: had Lu made that shot, Chinese Taipei would have been the #1 seed! When I was watching that game live, I definitely thought, why? I understand he just wanted to win, didn't want other things to happen, but the team was already up by 4 with 5 seconds remaining, what can RP do in 5 seconds when you have a 6pt lead? In hindsight, what he did (rather, didn't do) was really ridiculous. Who knows, RP could have buried a mid-court 3 in 5 seconds, but what are the chances. Or he could have waited and made the shot with 1sec remaining, there were no Filipino defenders in sight.

Wow, that would have been big. Hindsight is always 20-20.. hehe..

Qatar also made a buzzer beating 3 at the end of the game against PH that cut the differential to 10. Could have been a 13 point win :D

Yeah, it's unethical towards the other team to even attempt such a shot.
