Philippines will play as a whole for the first time. But might be a disaster more than a success. Anyway this is just to test the complete team Pilipinas.
Kelly Williams and new addition Jimmy Alapag still in the USA having vacation.AFAIK.

i am still not optimistic about our chances in this 3 nations tournament coz jimmy and williams will just be starting to play with the team..but these games would help them going to wuhan..losing to jordan and qatar at this tournament is imminent..winning against them is a bonus..

you're not wrong;)
Qatar and Jordan games will be a great tune up for your team and will prepare you to play against big teams.
PS: i think the philipines have a chance against china this year if they scout them properly;)

Will go there today. game is against Qatar i think. For you sir I will take pictures. they naturalized chauncy leslie, a good point guard that complements them well. Will be an interesting game. This same team they will bring to Wuhan, beat Philippines in the third place game at the FIBA ASIA Champions Cup this year with the latter really losing steam after a tough semifinals loss to IRan the previous day. I want to see how the real Philippine team will fare even if this is just a tune-up. But knowing Toroman, he treats every game seriously.

yeah, an expected result..it could have been better if Ngombo, Leslie and others suited up to push the limit of our team..as a team, Smart Gilas may have only showed 60-70 percent of its potential..hopefully, they peak during the tournament proper..

Philippines wallops Qatar in a Friendly Match - Sep 8, 2011 (by Omar Shafaamri)

Smart Gilas-Pilipinas played cohesively all game long to wallop Qatar, 69-52, Thursday night in the first of three tune-up games serving as part of its preparation for next week's FIBA-Asia Championship For Men in Wuhan, China.

The Nationals raced to an early 21-6 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back from there, cruising to the convincing win fashioned out before a modest crowd at The Arena in San Juan City.

Jimmy Alapag (178-G-77, college: Cal.St.-San Bernar.) showed the way for the team with 11 points while Ranidel de Ocampo added nine as the two Talk 'N Text stalwarts slowly squeeze their way into coach Rajko Toroman's system just barely a week after formally joining the team.

'Practice again (Friday) to continue to build and improve our chemistry,' said Gilas assistant coach Charles Tiu. 'But we still can improve.'

Naturalized player Marcus Douthit hardly flexed his muscle inside and finished with eight rebounds while pro-bound Marcio Lassiter had an all-around game of eight points, five rebounds, and six assists for the Nationals.

The Qataris, however, played minus star player Tanguy Ngombo and Chauncey Leslie. Ngombo is the first Qatari player to be selected in the NBA Draft after he was selected 57th overall by the Dallas Mavericks last June.

Gilas held the visitors to a 27 percent field goal shooting after three quarters and led, 57-32, entering the fourth.

The Nationals will play Jordan next on Saturday, before capping the exhibition series by playing the Qataris again on Sunday.

The team leaves for Wuhan on Tuesday for the September 15 to 25 tournament, the Asian qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympics.

i hope so..anyway, if they won't field their star players, we don't mind anyway coz what we are after here is for our new players to have a tune up games..any scores on this tournament is not important for our team..what is important is to practice the system and chemistry for the sake of our new members..;)

thanks. this is the first game that smart gilas played with a complete line up.

Still not complete as JV Casio was just a cheerleader on the bench (wearing running shoes) for this tune-up game.

Btw, I was seated next to the Jordan NT players and the familiar faces were all there (Daghlas, Z.Abbas, I.Abbas, Wright, Soobzokov, Zaghab, Alkhas).

But that Qatar team looked drastically different. I don't know what they're trying to do this close to the ABC. I see no point in playing a tune-up minus your key players. If not for Saad Abdulraham Ali, they might have been beaten worse than that final score.

GCC champions Qatar continued to keep their cards very close to their chest as 2009 FIBA Asia Championship bronze medalists Jordan won 71-66 on the second day of the triangular friendly scrimmages on Friday.

Qatar had lost 52-69 to Philippines on Thursday.

Qatar coach Ali Fakhroo continued to keep Targuy Ngombo completely rested and used only seven players.

Fakhroo’s opposite number Tab Baldwin, on the other hand, used all his players – each of them for almost 10 minutes each.

Abdulla Abuqoura led Jordan’s scoring with 15 points.

Naturalized guard Rasheim Wright (pic above) – Jordan’s leading scorer in the 24th FIBA Asia Championship in 2007 and the 25th FIBA Asia Championship two years later when the WABA team won their maiden FIBA Asia Championship medal – had a dozen points.

Ali Zaghab and Zaid Abbas accounted for 10 points each.

For the second game running, Saeed Ali was Qatar’s highest scorer with 17 points.

Erfan Saeed, Mansour Elhadary, Ousseynou Ndiaye and Omar Salem each contributed 11 points for Qatar.

Jordan play Philippines on Saturday.

that's the first time i see Ali Fakhro playing it smart and hiding his cards for the asian champs, smart move from him, but on the other hand i cant help but wonder, why did he even bother joining this tournement if he wasent gona play his starters to try to get to a better level of chemistry:p he's just wasting his time.
hope his smart plan doesent backfire and ends up loosing the chemistry he long worked to create.

No Ngombo and Leslie, no reason to cheer. These teams are not laying their cards down. It will be an entirely different ball game in Wuhan.

You gotta miss the services of Hontiveros. Clutch shooter, lockdown defender and experience. Something that you can't rely on Chris Lutz and Lassiter. I really don't see any reason on Ranidel Ocampo's inclusion. He's just another Baracael but i guess an improved version. If only Jason Castro is not injured, He could be included in the Smart Gilas line up. ..... bottom line, 6th place is a realistic for Smart Gilas.... No more no less...

well, it's probably part of their strategy. i just hope they put a semblance of a fight and exert extra effort tomorrow. not like what they did last Thursday. else, they will just be wasting the host's effort and money. they might not be invited next time around.

i'm not sure, but i think chauncey leslie will not be with qatar in wuhan.. he isn't in qatar's primary lineup according to the asian championship website which has the primary lineups.

so technically they played only without ngombo..

there's really no need to hide his cards coz the players that were not playing were not new to this team..Ngombo already played against our team for several times..if ever, there is a surprise, it would be leslie, but i doubt it would even be a surprise coz on the elimination all the teams would already be scouted..anyway, if there is an advantage of him not playing them, it could be that these players would not be injured..aside from that, i doubt he would gain something..
