Tell me more about this guy, NBA scouts are all over him after an impressive performance at the adidas eurocamp.According to NBAdraft.net he is the best 2-guard prospect to come out of Europe since Drazen Petrovic. Rudy Fernandez and Marco Belinelli weren't even close to the talent Mario HezonjaMario Hezonja or polished players that he is at 16 years of age.

+ very athletic, explosive, great body and size, can shoot fro up to 8 meters, can handle ball, can create his shoot, has great mental toughnes for kid, not of fraid of chalenges, good worker

- extremley cocky kid (kobe, lebron are sweet litle kids compared with him), can easly get very nervus, to selfish, likes to much jackig 3 pointers insted creating for him self and others, bad decision making, rearly plays defense with itensity, his fundumetals are very questionable when going for lay ups

form my opinion he is bigest croatian talent after toni kukoc...yup...more talented than drazen, radja, cosic or other croatian phenomenon saric.......but i give him less than 20% chances to become as best player he can be

What about Josip Sesar? He was supposed to be the european MJ when he was so young... and where's now?

Great talent of course but just 16 y-o... i'd wait a couple of years and see what he can do in pro basketball.

pohani komarac

yeah sesar to...and he has some of sesar's mentality....being dick head (that is mostley visable when he steps on court with his age boys where he is twice better them them), and geting in love with jacking 3, and being lazy on defense

there was about 1000 people watching croatian u-16 chapionship ff, and mostley people come to see him...in first game where things didn't go well for him he was very disgusting...terible behavior...the fact people booed 16 year old kid on his club home court says much about his behavior

tough sesar was more skilled, mario more athletic

this kid throws windmill dunk's in brekaways with no problems

but one thing i realy liked about him is his metal toughnes

he was 13 when he debuted for his native dubrovnik against cibona. in his first posesion he got ball and shooted 3 pointer from 7 meters over player and scored...there was video on you tube from that game. but was removed

this year he played few times for zagreb seniors...and all minutes on court he was consitatly asking for his teammates for ball

also people on croatian forum from dubrovnik says kid works hard

but somehow i understand him and his behavior. he and saric are in very hard, emotional age and have to deal with icredible buzz in croatia who look at them as saviors of our basketball. and that buzz is becomeing more and more world wide, kids who are not much younger then they are have their posters, bunch of hyenas, menagers, sponsors are all arond them....when this kids see what is happenig around them it's realy hard for them to stay on ground....but i guess kids this days have to learn live with that...

saric for sample got contract with nike, whille our basketball federation has with adidas in wich says all our youth selections must wear their products...saric nom migh be lost for yuth inernational competitions...now put your self in that position

if they go trough all that normall that will already be worth of admaire

Yeah I heard about his attitude, What his plan? Is he going to turn pro or showcase his skills in the US. I wanna see him play in the US so that the top guard of his class will bring him back to earth. His a great talent hopefully he will be able to utilize it.

he already gets money so ncaa is out of question

he played this season on loan in croatian a2 league where he was scoring 10-20 points, and few games for zagreb seniors

zagreb will play euroleague next season, their president said saric, him an mavra will play for them in euroleague and adriatic league, that they won't loan them anymore...don't know if it will be like that.....realisticle for him it would be good just to play in croatian a1 league like saric did last year

This is a bit OT but is that the highest buyout for a player who is just 17 years old? (only other name that comes to mind is Rubio but his buyout at around 7 million US$ was in 2009 when he was 18)...

One thing for sure is that these kids (Hezonja and Saric) are extremely talented and I hope that they continue improving and developing their skills and don't go through a slump like Rubio is at the moment.

this kid is amazing.great athlete and has some NBA features like explosiveness, mental toughness anf quick first step... If he works hard,He can have better NBA career than Saric or other European talents.Sometimes he reminds me Rudy Fernandez but He has not succesfull career in Nba.we have to wait couple years to see what he will be like.It is early to decide his comparison but he looks one of the most talented young Europeans with Saric,Valanciunas and Kanter.

this kid has unteachable things like explosiveness and athleticm. He can improve his lay-up style or movements.Valanciunas also has mechanical movement but he dominated his age group:) Quick first step, toughness and atleticm really imprtant to be top player.foe exam; Our prospect James M. Birsen may be more skilled as fundamentally than Hezonja but has not any toughness and explosiveness:(

If he's too mechanical, now it's the time to work with his skills. He's way too young to limit him to an off-the-ball wing.

KK=košarkaški klub, translated BC=basketball club:p

Their usual arena is small school gym Trnsko, but since Uleb doesn't not alow playing their competitions in school gyms they will play Adriatic league in Cibona arena, KC Dražen Petrović whille they said they will play euroleague games in Arena Zagreb

if they show good basketball, they could do good, especially if saric shows good basketball...and i mean last thing for real....people are missing to see real players here as it showed that cadet chapionship finals were infront about 1000 people in their gym Trnsko, twice more then kk zagreb had in most NLB games

but i don't trust their menagment and coaching stuff at all. i'm afraid of another 0-10 season from coatian club

Here's a blog on Hezonja that I just came across. It has a lot of video links in it as well. The blogger is mostly saying the same things you guys have been saying about Hezonja- extremely talented, shows flashes of brilliance, shooting can be streaky and sometimes shows poor body language.

:( Yeah,i wish quick recovery to the kid.Anyway,he is a great talent, except of Šarić the biggest Croatian, but, however,he seems to still have these adolescential "flies",which is normal for boys of his age.Let's just hope that the non-existent Croatian basketball system will not destroy him, like it did to so many players like Zemljić,Sesar, and so on.

CRO - Nazor hopes Croatian star Hezonja fit for U17 Worlds

ZAGREB (2012 FIBA U17 World Championship) - Mario Hezonja was Croatia’s all-around superstar in leading the Balkan side to last year’s U16 European Championship title.

Now Croatian head coach Ante Nazor is hoping his star small forward will be fit in time for this summer’s FIBA U17 World Championship.

Hezonja had an eventful 2011 in helping Croatian club KK Zagreb win the Nike International Junior Tournament title alongside fellow budding star Dario Saric. The pair then played at the FIBA U19 World Championship before Hezonja highlighted his summer by grabbing the U16 European title as the tournament’s MVP.

But as great as Hezonja’s 2011 spring and summer were, the rest of his year were less than positive.

The Dubrovnik native, who turned 17 in late February, went down early in the 2011-12 campaign with a serious ankle injury. To compound things even more, he then got hit with a case of mononucleosis.

Still, Nazor believes Hezonja will be ready and fully fit in time for the U17 Worlds, which take place in Kaunas from 29 June-8 July in Kaunas, Lithuania.

“He was injured, but I believe he’s going to be ready for this tournament,” Nazor told FIBA.com.

However, the coach said the Croatian federation is not interested in rushing back such a highly-regarded prospect.

“Anyway, if he doesn’t (play at the U17 Worlds), he is a young player and is very talented, so he is going to have a lot of tournaments in the future. But for now it is most important that he becomes ready 100 percent.”

Nazor also emphasized that Hezonja is still just one player on his team.

“For sure, he is a very important player for our team. But as a coach I believe that basketball is a team sport where every player has an important role,” he warned.

Should Hezonja be unable to go for Croatia, two of the players most likely to be called upon to step up and try to fill the void are Domagoj Bosnjak and Paolo Marinelli. The hole would be too much to fill with just one player, and Nazor would likely need all of his players to pick up the slack.

But the Croatian coach hopes that he doesn’t have to worry about that this summer.

I watched Hezonja in the final of the Croatian junior championship and he was looking very unprepared. Physically he looked the same, maybe a bit taller than last year, but not as explosive or mobile as usual. On offense he was stagnant and not aggressive, waiting too often to be found by teammates for jump shot. I think with some more training and match play he will be ready for the under-17 tournament where we hopefully see his full talents.

Mazalin maybe. He is better then bouth at his stage:)

from those 2 it's hard to say. Saric is special type of player that does not come often, but on other hand he does not have great athletic abiltys and 100% profiled position and role at moment

Hezonja unlike Saric has almost elite athleticisam let's say 8 or 9 out of 10 (And i think NBA Level there), natrual shoot, profiled role and position, but must impruve his skill set decision making and overall understanding of game.

I gues only time will tell, good thig bouth look mentaly strong

I can confirm that Hezonja will be promoted to the first team next year. For technical and athleticism, Hezonja is the best prospect on Europe by... ¿Gasol? and only Wiggins can't stand the comparison with the croatian talking about world prospects. However I think he's got the NBA on his mind, in 2015 maybe he will prove to jump the Atlantic. I am absolutely agree with pohani that the only thing to complain is his bad attitude, but I'm sure this will be fixed. Last game our coach sit him on the bench long minutes because he was doing stupid things like Superman moves, LOL. I love this kid. Croatian has a golden future. BTW, Tomic is probably doing his best season, team are playing for him and he's responding, and of course play with Lorbek is a guaranty to improve.

Doviđenja!

Yes I think there are 2 wildcards for the qualifying tournament per region. So Croatia, Slovenia, or Latvia can all still theoretically make it to the Olympics even though they are not competing in the World Cup.
