Benfica renews with Evans and André Bessa joins Guimarães on loan from Porto!

Nice one for Guimarães really like that kid.
I don't get what Porto is planning to do, but they have to do something.

I wonder if anyone is going to make a move for Tiago Pinto (He plays in Ponte Sôr from the our Second Division which is called proliga) he has great stats!

That's great news too, as he's now naturalised and Benfica can get one more foreigner to strengthen the team for hopefully EuroChallenge. Heshimu is old but he's still very useful.

Fernando Neves at Ovarense

Ovarense should confirm in the next few days the hiring of Fernando Neves (30 years), coming from V. Guimarães.

Formed in schools of Sangalhos, forward started his senior career at Illiabum until he reach the team of Ovar with 23 years and where he remained for four seasons. Over the past two seasons, this player left-handed and specialist in triples represented V. Guimarães.

This is a known data. Coach Mário Leite also have already done his options in relation to foreign players. The coach wiil bet on Jason Smith, Bobby Madison and Matthew Webster, basketball players that played for CAB Madeira in the past two seasons.

Julian Terrel to stay in Porto

Further north, FC Porto has practically defined situations of stays and outputs. One of these cases is the guard João Figueiredo, which remains in the team. Less fortunate was american Jeremy Hunt, who received the indication is not included in the plans of the coach Moncho Lopez.

Who will receive new invitation to continue in Dragão Caixa is Julian Terrel. The center was the second best from blues and whites shirts during the season and kept the good image that already had left earlier. Was also influential piece in two titles won by dragons: Portuguese Cup and Trophy Hugo dos Santos.

After André Bessa have been loaned to Vitória Guimarães, new loans should cover André Boavida (CAB Madeira), João Gaspar (Guifões, Proliga) and José Almeida (Penafiel).

Two renewals at Ginásio

The centers Marco Gonçalves and Pedro Silva agreed renewal of their links to Ginásio. These were the first known team advances in Figueira da Foz, who will suffer further reduction of the budget. Sergio Salvador will continue to be the team's coach.

For a Portuguese section to be created basketball needed to show up in media and develope more, much more. Portuguese basketball level is very far from Lebanese, for instance.

So the league there does not have a good level?
Besides I remember most of the Angolian NT players were previously playing in Portuguese league are they still there?

No, it's a poor league actually and has been degrading over the last few years.
Yes, many Angolan players used to play in Portugal (Guimarães, the legendary Jean-Jacques, etc.), but that situation changed precisely when the league got professional. Angolan players are considered imports and Portuguese clubs prefer to hire American players. Also I believe in Angola players get a better wage than in there, although I'm not sure.

Yes, he's naturalized. He's old but he's still very good, he played in Angola last season at least and was one of the good players there. He's an excelent rebounder and a consistent scorer too. He won the Portuguese league three times with three different teams.

It happened some days ago, but here it is. Benfica won the first trophy of the season (Super Cup) against rivals Porto:

One Trophy In The Bag Already For Benfica

Veteran forward Sergio Ramos has played in a lot of big games for Portugal and Lisboa e Benfica over the years.

At EuroBasket 2007, he was a part of the Portuguese national team that experienced the highs of upsetting Latvia and Israel to give his country's fans that made the journey to Seville and Madrid a tournament to treasure.

At Benfica, Ramos is the captain and already this year, he's given the club's supporters a couple of big thrills.

In the decisive second leg of the EuroChallenge Qualifying tie at Ferro-ZNTU in Ukraine, Ramos had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the team to a 77-72 win, giving them a five-point triumph on aggregate.

Back home in Portugal, he has just led Benfica to a 66-63 victory over FC Porto in the Super Cup.

"It was the first important trophy of the season," said Ramos, who turns 36 in December.

"It was against a rival that we will face many times this year and it has a special flavor.

"We have started the year well, but now we realize that we still have to work hard to improve as a team. The team isn't well physically and I think we still have, therefore, much room for improvement."

Ramos will be looking to make his mark in the EuroChallenge again when Benfica take on Lukoil Academic on November 16 in their Regular Season opener.

Tomorrow the deciding game 7 of the playoff finals between eternal rivals Porto and Benfica.

This series have been exciting, but Benfica hasn't been able to keep the games close when playing away. Their defense has been awful at some points, specially on the transition game, with Porto having several open 3's. The first two were blowouts, the last one was closer but still Porto won it quite easily. Benfica is an old team and that has played a role taking into account the up tempo style Porto plays at home. I bet on Porto to win this one.
