The player on the right is Sun Zhe, a 220 cm center from Dongguan allegedly born in 1990 who played one game for Dongguan the past CBA season and is currently training with the Sydney Kings in Australia.

I don't think this is Namizato. I think this is Oliver Bautista from the Philippines.

Anyway, 7-footer Zhang Dayu, probably the only player in the camp to have played in CBA last year, was selected the MVP in the camp and earned a trip to Lebron James Academy. He's described as a fluid center who can finish around the rim but not the next big thing from China.

Probably the biggest find for China from the camp is 190cm guard Guo Ailun from Liaoning, who is the nephew of ex-NT player Guo Shiqiang. He's described as a very tough defender who also combines excellent handles and scoring. Zhong Cheng (204cm, Jilin) was the MVP of last year's Chinese high school league and did well. Sui Ran (194cm, Shandong) and Zhang Yongpeng (208cm, Zhejiang) also were top players.

From the rest of Asia, nobody impressed from Korea according to multiple reports. Japan's sole representative, Narito Namizato dazzled with arguably the best handles and passing in the camp but at only 172cm he has difficulties defending taller guards. As noted in the other thread, he'll come to America soon and play in NCAA next. The 2 Filipino guards reportedly did very well. Mikke R. Reys (173cm) is described as a very fast and active guard, while Oliver Bautista (176cm) won the 3 point shootout. All 5 Australian players made the All-Star Game but most felt that only one named Anthony Radcliffe stood out. The players from Taiwan were OK, notably 195cm post player Chou Po-Chen.

Am I correct that the best Chinese players in this age group -- Cai Liang, Tian Yuchen, Wang Zheng, Sun Zhe, Li Jingyu, Xu Zhonghao, Meng Duo, Zhang Shu, etc. -- are with the Under-18 National team and not at these camps?

No. China has not named its U18 NT yet. Cai Liang is in IBL in USA.

Besides, most of these players if not all are all over 18 years old. Meng Duo for example even wrote in his blog last year that he's 20. To curb the ever-widening problem of age shaving, CBA has issued a new regulation in the offseason stating that starting in 08-09, all rookies in CBA must be listed as over 18 years old. Chances are, you will see in a few months that many CBA rookies now have DOBs listed as much closer to their real DOBs. At least 2 observers in this year's Nike All-Asia camp took notice that most coaches (including foreign ones) felt that while the Chinese players from this year's camp were generally worse than in previous years, it was because they are on average younger (many really over-aged players had to change their DOBs due to this new regulation. )

So no more "15 year old" Yi Jianlian dominating Beijing Bucks or "15 year old" Tang Zhengdong as top 5 rebounder. Very good regulation IMO: sure it cannot absolutely eliminate the problem but with the situation it is I feel like it's the best approach. Kudos to CBA.

Got a chance to watch Dayu Zhang, a 7-foot-2 center from China. He's not bad at all. In fact, one scout told me he thought the kid has a huge upside and would be a star should he come to school in the U.S. Well, that's not likely to happen. But remember the name Zhang for future NBA Draft reference.
