  • All-time ethnic Chinese letterwinners in NCAA

This list is extremely difficult to compile... First of all only scholarship-winning athletes, no walk-ons. Secondly before this decade, I mostly only included the players who went to play in Asia -- as I don't know how else to do this. Please help me with the list if you can.

        Good post.

I remember watching Ma Jian back in the day.

However, I don't believe Harvard offers scholarships, so not sure if Jeremy Lin counts (plus, I don't believe he was offered any D1 scholarships).

        What's Derrick Low's background?

Harvard's website says Jeremy Lin a "letterwinner".
Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

Derrick Low, I heard was 1/2 Chinese-Hawaiian + 1/4 Spanish + 1/4 Portuguese. Anyway he's not considered an ethnic Chinese in my book.

Ok, fair enough. I thought you meant only players that received scholarships.

7-footer "Ted" Wang Zeming signed with Texas A&M Corpus Christi, which is a small D1 school in Southland Conference. He was a member of Shanghai Sharks junior team and should be already in his 20s, after spending the past 2 years in U.S. high schools.

He looks pretty athletic for his height. Well there is still a lot of room to improve if he only played the sport for 4 years.

Meanwhile Hawaii's Ji Xiang forfeited 2 years of eligibility to return to Shanghai Sharks, having also been a member of their junior team.

Ji Xiang was getting less than 5 minutes per game of playing time at Hawaii last year which is likely why he left. He had a serious knee injury the previous year, which may have affected his game.

Jeremy Lin's younger brother Joseph Lin will be playing college ball this upcoming season as a freshmen. I can't seem remember which university though. He's a 6'0 point guard.

I looked it up, and it's just a Division III school (Dickinson College).

And he's not on the team.

Anyway, Cai Chen will be playing for Loyola-Maryland (mid-major D1 school) next year.

There's also a guy named Bian Saiyuan who will attempt to make KU's basketball team as a walk-on. For the past 2 years he played in Menlo College (Division III) in California before transferring to Kansas. He says he played pro ball for 2 years in China, and after research I found he came from Shanxi's junior team (born in 1988, height=185cm in 2007).

Are we only looking for 100% Chinese?

Silas Cheung (Mount St. Mary's in the 90's, born in England) and Sabatino Chen (currently plays for Colorado after transferring from Denver) should be at least part-Chinese?

I doubt that he will be making the team, as his stats from Menlo do not stand out at all...even though he looks impressive on the vid. Good luck to him.

I know that Eckerd (Fla.) ist not D1, but I remember a Trinidadian-Chinese named Lester Chang Fong playing there in the 90s.

                              the entire thread is racist

Here's a 100% Chinese girl (I know that because I've talked with her online) with a non-Chinese name. But she's done with her NCAA career. I don't think her team won many games in 4 years; even though it's Division I.
