What is the easiest way to get a tryout or a scout to come see me play in the United States? I am also willing to fly to the Philippines if need. I already posted some info in pervious post. I do have clips and a Mix which is in fa dvd, so if needed I will message it. I know scouts go to Pibna games to watch, but is there any other way we could get in touch or have any connections. I am Full Filipino but live and played basketball in the States all of my life.

Bro to be honest with you being 5'7 and at 22 years old it would be greatly difficult to break into a Commercial Team here. It is not to belittle your capabilities but there is just too much abundance of guards over here right now then you add the Filipino-Foreigners like you who are also coming back to the Philippines to play. The arrival of 6'6 Gabe Norwood and 6'5 Jared Dillinger, more teams are attracted in getting taller point guards. I do not say it is impossible but with your physicality, you would have a very difficult time. You must possess extraordinary ability and skills. You must be superfast just like or faster than Paul Artadi, have the outside shooting or should have better accuracy and consistency than Ronnie Magsanoc, have poise and fighting heart of Jimmy Alapag or the durability of Johnny Abbarientos. But you being a Fil-am, it would be a big disadvantage as they could be expecting you to be like this other small but talented Fil-am baller:
I'am sorry, I just want to be honest. The current situation of not so many teams means there are only a few slots available and I know you are so eager to prove yourself. But this might be not the right time for you to come over and try your luck. But if you are really bent on coming over, I suggest that you postpone it and prepare yourself first. Re-invent yourself and make yourself extra special by improving your skills and being able to play competitive basketball over there against taller opposition. You should be able outplay or even overpower players half a foot bigger than you while still playing in a team concept.Last edited by nardy; 02-09-2010, 04:36 AM.LABAN KUNG LABAN! are you a college graduate? if you cant make the commercial leagues, you can try out the bank teams. some banks hire employees for the simple reason that they play good basketball. if you're a college grad, stateside pa diploma, you can be hired as first level officer with a monthly salary of anywhere from 25,000-40,000 pesos. and you can actually have a nice career in banking while playing basketball.
this is the route taken by some of the uaap guys who can't make the pba. of particular note is csb's ron capati who i think plays for bong tan's allied bank now.
anyhow, good luck on your career.Dead Lizard.

patay-butiki so there's still a Inter-bank tournament going on. It is not well publicized as before, I remember Far East Bank has a dominant team before and would at times play Commercial Teams. Where do they usually play right now and who are the active teams?Last edited by nardy; 02-09-2010, 09:44 AM.LABAN KUNG LABAN! KAYA NATIN PILIPINAS!

Yes I am a graduate, I kinda felt like it I did not have a great chance for the commercial leagues but wanted to get some info. My size in the Philippines is same to he next. I just thought being from here learning playing in the states would have given me the upper hand. To put it in prospective I didnt plan on just to jump on a plane and think I was going to make a team. I didnt think I was gonna be a allstar just wanted a chance since all I do was live and sleep basketball. The bank league sounds like it would be fun....... how would I get in touch with someone about that. Also is that league based on basketball or is it like a league I would find down here in the states as in an A league or an Alumni league for graduates? Because working at a bank would be a step down and pay decrease.( No Offense ) Which I do wanna just play basketball and have a nice life... Thanks for the input once again. I also dont want to make it look like Im better than anyone because Im from the states I just wanna live a dream anyone else would.Last edited by MykMac; 02-09-2010, 02:38 PM.

no more guard please
no more gruard baby. Philippines is blessed with guards. many are forced to play centers. many are forced to play forwards and many are forced to play power forwards.
no more guards please. even those aspiring balikbayans are in the mold of guard size.
unfortunately but thats all we can breed. more than that is overgrown with a very little room for mobility.Someone under 5 feet can be a great coach, don’t get me wrong, but to be a big man coach and have never played in the post or even played high level ball? C’mon now.

but i should remind you that most pbl players earn less than 50,000 pesos a month. so i think playing basketball in the philippines will most probably make you take a pay cut.
anyways, good luck again dude!Dead Lizard.

Yeah I got you.... Whats money if you are doing something you love. I thought some of the seasons were short and I could come back to here and work. All in all I wanna have fun. Over here its all work and no play. When I finished college ball it seemed like all I did was work and no more basketball until I played in some Nike camp tournys.

actually, even a PBL-level salary is more than enough for a single person because the cost of living here isn't expensive as living in the States... but then again, there are no guarantees of making the roster every year. teams change staff and so many up-and-coming young players are preferred.
it's not just banks, i remember call centers (starting salary of around $300 a month if converted from pesos) being very competitive against each other... if i'm not mistaken, i think it was HSBC who got Jerry Codiñera... and in their call center league, they do have ex-MBA and ex-UAAP juniors players in their roster.
