My picks after Gasol were Hedo and Nowitzki.

Erazem Lorbek-Slovenia and Regal FC Barcelona

[...] For his club side Regal FC Barcelona, Lorbek led his team all the way to the Final Four, averaging 12 points and five rebounds along the way.

I liked your picks for jonior: http://basket-spot.blogspot.com/2009/12/2009-fiba-euro-player-of-year-picks.html

I voted yesterday and also picked Antoine Diot the first.
Ricky is second and Macvan (yours second) is my third.

For adults my pics are: Pau Gaslol, Erazem Lorbek, Rudy Fernandez and Ilyasova for this poll.

Even if it's not mentioned at the beginning, the vote concerns the whole season.

Anyway without big surprise my own vote goes for gasol - ilyasova - navarro (i would have gone for bourousis without his 'disappointing' euro)

Young wise : rubio - papanikolaou - diot (i'm biased ofc, a 'normal' choice should be something like rubio - kanter - macvan).

Me too not objective but tittle bit in other way. My sympathy goes for those for who everything came less easy and for whom this poll would be more important.

Some players should not even be on the list. Like Nowitzki... what did he achieve last season? Nothng. And he didn't play for Germany NT.
Well he played his usual self, isn't that enough? Magic basketball? :p OK I'm biased here.
Yeah, Gortat shouldn't be on the list.

And by a landslide of "expert" votes. Imo Nowizki is the best euro player at the moment, Gasol is 2nd, but Gasol was the most successful one this year.
Seems that Vspan is respected by experts, but lacks public support...:)

He has signed a life-long contract with Greek loby since he was in Larisa. And you can see how his career has taken off since then. Everything have a simple explanation.

Don't worry, it's the same people who voted Olisadebe in front of Zidane 10 years ago in football.

The better you are, the more illogical and irrational haters and detractors you will have. This is simple human nature. Just like if you are secondary to a player that you are directly competing with for elite status and you are below them - the more illogical and irrational fan boys you will have (see Rubio, Ricky, Diamantidis, Dimitris or James, LeBron) because they want to distort the perception of reality. The experts say Vassilis Spanoulis is the third best European basketball player in the world (which he most likely is, based on objective analysis - although, Teodosic is definitely catching up with him).

That means that he will have an unusual amount of haters, as these forums attest to. In particular, it is why some Panathinaikos fans hate him so much - because it makes other fan favorites like Diamantidis look bad. Again, simple human nature.

If Dirk and Pau actually played in Europe, they would be hated also. Since they are in the NBA, the hate on them from European fans is minimized. However, even then, Pau gets a lot of hate for what happens with Spain's national team. Dirk does not, but that's because Germany hasn't been that good.

This sort of thing is very common place. The NBA marketing gimmicks and hype say that Kobe is the most popular basketball player in the US and people outside the US probably believe it. However, the fact is that he is actually the most hated player. If you are the best player, you will also usually be the most hated player in what region you are playing in.

There are some rare exceptions, like Nick Galis or Magic Johnson, but that's very rare, and usually only applies to players that make some sort of transcendent change to the sport in their region.

Oh, so that's why many people don't like Spanoulis... Because he's the best European playing in Europe. Well, that makes sense... :D

Pau is already hated in Europe, outside Spain. Because he is a sissy.

Spanoulis is hated because he is a mama's boy and he cries.

While players with real men-like balls are respected and worshiped, like Jasikevicius, Teodosic and Kambala. And Dimitri Domany.

Well, I don't think so. At least during the last eurobasket people talked about him with respect, because he was dominating.

But that's not the point. The point is that people don't start hating a player because he's good (that's what vspan666 is saying), they start hating him because he's arrogant, a sissy, etc...

And the best players do have more haters than average players, but that's because they're better known. And they also have a lot more people who love them.

Yes, that's why people hate Pau, because he is a sissy. I'm glad we agree. I have the outmost respect for Lithuanian opinions. On basketball that is. Anything else I'd rather trust the devil.

By the way, could the theory work on IBN users too? That would explain why FEB has so many haters, he is the third best poster here.
