  • 1st FIBA Asia U-16 Championship for Girls [Nov 30-Dec 6 India]

    India opened its campaign with a 91-64 victory over Philippines in the Asian under-16 girls’ basketball championship at the Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune on Monday. In the other game, Singapore girls found it diffcult to handle onslaught of the Taipei team and lost by a margin of 127 points.

    The results: Korea 78 (Yujin Jeong 16, Eunsij Choi 13, Eunji Kim 10) bt Thailand 58 (Punnida Arjsri 18, Ponrnnutcha Sawatong 16, Chalieolerdaumpo 11).

    China 137 (Liting Zhang 26, Liwei Yang 18, Hongyang Cui 15) beat Hong Kong 28.

    Japan 120 (Erina Sugawara 25, Rie Izumita 18, Rina Hill 12) beat Sri Lanka 9.

    Chinese Taipei 147 (Tsai-Hsin Chen 21, Chi-Fang Chang 20, Chia-Wen Kuo 16) beat Singapore 20.

    India 91 (Sneha Rajguru 24, Navaneetha P.U. 22, Amruta Bhuskute 18) beat Philippines 64 (Tisa Anne Piatos 15, Jacqueline Tanaman 13, Tara Shane Araneta 11).

        Day 2 Roundup

        China trounced India 108-37 in a group A match of the Asian under-16 girls basketball championship in Pune.

        The Chinese girls showed their mantle and raided the Indian territory from the right from the begining and kept the scoreboard tickling in their favour.

        The home team put up a reasonable show in the initial five minutes scoring seven points (7-15). But China came back heavyly and maintained the lead through out the game.

        The Chinese led 55-15 at the break. In the second half, Indian girls came up with a good show and sunk as many as 17 points to narrow the lead, but it was too late to catch up with the lost ground.

        In the other games, East Asian countries continued their domainance and maintaining their 100+ scoring redcord as Taipei defeated Hong Kong 106-34 and Japan beat Thailand 103-49.



        The results: China 108 (Mengxin Sun 16, Xi Yang 15, Meng Li 15, Liting Zhang 14, Xueya Ma 13, Dong Yu 12, Mingyang Li 10) bt India 37 (Ranjeeta Kaur 11).

        Chinese Taipei 106 (We Lin Wang 17, Yu Ling Tin 15, Chi Fang Chang 14, Tsai Hsin Chen 13, I Hsiu Chang 10) bt Hong Kong 34 (Sum Yee Wu 12).

        Korea 72 (Eunji Kim 20, Kyelee Kang 14, Hyunji Noh 13, Yeajin Cha 10) bt Kazakhstan 55 (Natalya Popova 26).

        Philippines 72 (Danica Therese Jose 16, Elrica Aniela Castro 12, Lore Rivera 10) bt Singapore 56 (Violet Ziti Chua 17).

        Japan 103 (Rie Izumita 15, Yuki Ikeya 13, Erina Sugawara 13, Royka Takeda 11, Yume Negishi 11, Hill Rina 10) bt Thailand 49 (Pornnutcha Sawatong 20, Punnida Arjsri 10).

          The Indian girls team, whose chance to make it to the next round looked bleak, suffered yet another jolt as they lost 37-95 to Chinese Taipei in a group A league match of the Asian under-16 basketball championship in Pune (India) on Wednesday.

          The top two teams from the two groups make the semifinals.
          Scores:
          Chinese Taipei 95 (Yu Ting Lin 24, Wei In Wang 22, Jung Yang 12) bt India 37 (Kavita Akula 12, Shireen Limaye 11, Navaneetha P.U. 10).

            Day 4 Roundup

            India recorded a 74-49 victory over Hong Kong to lift the sagging spirits in the Asian under-16 girls’ basketball championship at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Thursday.

            After the demoralising defeats at the hands of top teams China and Chinese Taipei, the Indian girls recovered to score their second win in the group, after the one against Philippines.

            The Indian girls started well and led 31-21 at halftime. Both the teams were at their scoring best in the third quarter, as they took the score to 60-43 but India tightened its grip in the climax.

            India will play Singapore in its last league match on Friday, and has a bright chance to finish third in the group.

            The top two teams in each group make the semifinals. The rest will be reduced to playing positional matches.

            The results: India 74 (Shireen Limaye 16, Sneha Rjguru 16, Ranjeeta Kaur 12, Navaneetha P. U. 10) beat Hong Kong 49 (Hoi Tung Chau 13, Ka Yee Wong 10).

            Japan 112 (Yuki Miyazawa 15, Naoko Chikahira 15, Evelyn Mawuli 10, Manami Fujoka 11, Ryoka Takeda 10, Yume Negishi 10, Moeko Magaoka 10) beat Malaysia 26.

            Korea 113 (Daeong Park 19, Kyelee Kang 17, Yujin Jeong 17, Jeon Bomul 13, Hyunji Noh 11) beat Sri Lanka 26 (Jaya Kodyarachchi 12).

            Thailand 71 (Thidapom Maihom 23, Punnida Arjsri 18, Chalieoledaumpo 10) beat Kazakhstan 58 (Natalya Popova 13, Marina Petukhova 10).
