  • So Whats up with Romel Beck and Mexico?

Is this guy off the team for good? Is he suspended? I'm just curious because if he is then Mexico is f***ed. I do agree that he does too much one on one and holds the ball too much but Mexico goes through dry spells offensively every game and that's where he helps. I did notice that he wasn't even on the bench against Uruguay. Whats the latest?

He is on his way back home. Coach kicked him out after he did npot shoot while being clearly open in game three. Issues. Now Mexico plays a bit better, but still some kind of shaky.

After a game one loss to Puerto Rico, 81-66 in the FIBA Americas Championships, there was bickering amongst team Mexico that the teams leading scorer, Romel Beck, was being too selfish.

“There’s some unrest within the team,” Mexico’s head coach Arturo Guerrero admitted. “Beck started taking shots against five defensive players. That clearly bothered our guys.”

Hearing these complaints, Romel Beck spent the next two games Kobe-Bryanting, selfishly being unselfish to prove a point.

The result of Mexico’s second game?

Mexico got blown out by 55 points, losing to Canada 95-40.

The 40 points scored by Mexico in that game was the lowest scoring outcome by any team in a FIBA Americas Championship.

Beck shot 1 for 9 from the field that game before Guerrero benched him after only 19 minutes on the floor.

“What can I say?” Guerrero said. “It’s an embarrassment. Tonight was the most embarrassing [moment of my career].”

In Mexico’s next game against the U.S. Virgin Islands, Beck was inserted into the game and he purposely was not looking to shoot the ball during his five minutes of play. The 6-7 swingman was re-benched.

Beck’s behavior in the last two games prompted Guerrero to ask the Mexican Federation to remove Beck from the team. The Federation agreed, sending Beck home before their game four loss against Uruguay.

“A lot of young players are seeing this as a business opportunity.” Guerrero said.

        damn...

its a shame it had to go down like this. They both need each other. Mexico needs his offensive fire power and threat if they want to get at least one win in this next phase. And Beck needs the exposure because I assume that he wants to get nice contract at a top league. But I understand what Guerrero is doing... man I wish earl watson and Najera were playing... 0-4 record here we come
