Melbourne Tigers star and reigning Philips Championship Most Valuable Player Chris Anstey will participate in workouts with the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA team following the completion of his Spanish League team’s season.

Anstey revealed on his website (www.anstey.com.au) that he would fly to the US for individual workouts with a number of NBA teams, including LeBron James’ Cavs.

“Cleveland is flying me over there later in May to do some workouts, and I will be visiting a few other teams for individual workouts while they are in the same place for the rookie camps in Orlando,” Anstey wrote in his on-line journal.

“I am not expecting much going in, but it is nice to be recognised as having a good enough season to warrant an invite.”

Anstey’s Spanish League season finishes on May 13. He has had a positive impact since joining Spanish side Caja San Fernando Sevilla. The team, which was facing relegation, has scored a number of important wins with Anstey on board, including a vital road victory against Real Madrid after being down 16 at half time and a 15-point win over fourth-placed Joventut at home.

The 213cm centre also indicated on his website that he would be making himself available for the Boomers tilt at the World Championships later this year after spending some time off to rest with his family in June.
