  • Andreas Glyniadakis

So the greek forum will be restarted with a thread about Glyniadakis

His team, the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, won the D-League on Sunday, with a 119:108 win over the Fort Worth Flyers. Glyniadakis had 21pts (8-14 FG), 9rbds, 2bs and 1ast in 41mins in the final, being the topscorers of his team, together with Tierre Brown.

He played great. Aris approached him and asked him if he would like to sign a contract with them but he told them that he has already made an agreement with Detroit so I think he will be playing in the NBA next year. Good for him, his insistence has paid off.

I think there will be several greek players in the NBA next year. From what I hear from Greece Spanoulis has also come to an agreement with Houston and I expect Papaloukas to go to the NBA too. Also some kids like Vougoukas, Vasilopoulos, Printezis might be drafted.

He's playing well and good for him. Hopefully he finds a team so that we finally have a greek player in the NBA.

Pre-season game with the Hawks against the Grizzlies: 14 minutes, 10 points, 4 rebs and 1 blocked shot. Not bad...

Glyn had a great game and he contributed a lot--let's hope he keeps it up that way. It looks like he is getting some chances to play--probably they've signed him already but it hasn't been announced yet.

                      Update on Glyn:

After playing pre-season games with the Hawks Andreas was signed by Seattle Supersonics...
Seems like a good situation for Andrea... He can be a part of the rotation over there...
Here's an article with the news:

Sonics sign Greek Center Andreas Glyniadakis

                        Pulled from ESPN.com: source

Sonics sign Glyniadakis, adding depth to thin frontcourt
SEATTLE -- Thin in the frontcourt, the Seattle SuperSonics signed free agent center Andreas Glyniadakis on Sunday.

To make room on the roster, Seattle waived guard Kareem Rush, who the Sonics hoped would provide scoring off the bench. Rush could not overcome a groin injury sustained in training camp.

The 7-foot-1 Glyniadakis was with the Atlanta Hawks during the preseason and averaged 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in five preseason games. Last year, Glyniadakis played in the NBA Development League with both Roanoke and Albuquerque. He averaged 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 39 games, and scored 21 points for Albuquerque in the league's championship game.

Glyniadakis was originally a second-round draft pick of Detroit in 2003. Glyniadakis played professionally in Greece from 1998-2005.

Seattle lost center Robert Swift for the season with a knee injury in the next-to-last preseason game. Rookie center Mouhamed Sene also sprained his ankle on opening night.

Rush signed with Seattle before the start of training camp. Last year, Rush played in 47 games for Charlotte and averaged a career-high 10.1 points.

Andreas agreed with Virtus Bologna till the end of the season during the Final Four in Athens, tomorrow he will be in Bologna to sign the contract, the medical control and probably the first practice.

Vasileiadis too was predictable to play for Virtus, but for the current situation at Unicaja he probably will remain in Malaga.
