  • Euroleague nominies for the best lineup

    http://http://www.euroleague.net/noticia.jsp?temporada=E05&jornada=25&id=938]link
    PG:
    -Pablo Prigioni
    -Theo Papaloukas

    SG/SF:
    -Juan Carlos Navarro
    -Anthony Parker
    -Vasillis Spanoulis
    -Trajan Langdon

    PF/C:
    -Luis Scola
    -Darjus Lavrinovic
    -Jorge Garbajosa
    -Nikola Vujcic

I am missing Milojevic or Andersen here, I definately think Spanoulis shouldn't be in considering by the games I've seen him play, Scoonie Penn is overlooked he could easily be put in instead of Prigioni or Papaloukas... and Trajan Langdon?!? ...compared to Diamantidis?
this year's selection is a bit strange imho...

Some things seem a bit weird, yes - but on the other hand understandable again. Spanoulis played some bad games (at Efes or Cibona for example) but some really great ones as well (vs CSKA, at Malaga, vs Cibona or the entire Quarterfinal series for example).
Diamantidis on the other hand had some bad games as well and already received the Best Defender Trophy, so its kinda understandable that he's no nominee for the best PG (I wouldn't nominate him as SG/SF).
Andersen was injured too long and missed the entire Top16 while Milojevics team most likely played just too bad (I guess team success plays a role as well, that's why Prigioni and Papaloukas are there imo, they don't put up huge stats but both are great PGs in successful teams).
Trajan Langdon is a huge surprise for me though, too...
Overall I'd say that one could argue about the one nomination or the other but given that the votes were given by 31 journalists it could be much worse imo.

I might be biased, I don't like journalists in general. Me + journalist of any kind= fight...

But when it comes to basketball, apart from Yarone Arbel and maybee few more, there are no COMPETENT journalists about EUROPEAN basketball... that's why they shouldn't decide about anything at all imho.
I've read some great stuff about developing talents, local problems, principles of basketball- there are a lot of ex-players and coaches writing this stuff, but overall there are very small ammount of persons (not working professional in bball=coaches, scouts, agents, referees) paying attention to eurobball that much that they'd be entitled of writing anything about it in media
I can't remeber when I read a GOOD article about european bball anywhere...

but I guess you're right, it could be worse

damn man... uhhh.... Stuart merge this

I've been at Euroleague games press conferences where half the attending journalists didn't know a single player of the teams that were playing...that's one reason why I said it could be worse
There are some decent ones though but those are the ones who were in contact with basketball before, either playing themselves or being involved in another way. Sadly a lot of journalists attending EL games are rather specialised on football/soccer than on basketball. But looking at the nominees I must say that it seems that (most of) the voting journalists knew at least a bit about the players

tyus edny is also overlooked here...
i'd go with - prigioni, navaro, parker, gabajosa and scola for the starting 5 (4 out 5 play in spain...). vujcic doesn't deserve his spot here. andersen should've joined scola but he didn't play the entire top 16 (and playoffs) smodis suffers the opposite problem - together they deserve a spot...
anyway - matiz, i wouldn't be so hard on journalists generally speaking i'd say they have better knowledge than coaches (who pick the rising star and one more award i'd just forgot - defender mabye?). coach gershon is an extreme example - cause doesn't know shit he don't HAVE to. when he commentated games for tv you could just see how little he knows of european basketball (and nba too) - he still is a great coach but generally speaking - coached tend to invistgate their needs and not much further. i.e. maccabi didn't play malaga this season - so be sure no one in maccabi saw the team - maybe accidently (playing against olympiacos). i'd say some coaches did watch more than what they ought to but not many (and that's understandable...)
