On a website I'm apart of we are discussing both the cost of a franchise in Brazil plus what the yearly expected budget would be. One poster is from Brazil and listed two major cities that need a division one pro team.

I was wondering from people actually in Brazil. What cities could use a pro team? What do you think the average cost of purchasing a franchise? What are salaries/ a yearly budget?

We've also been discussion Venezuela, Colombia, Costa Rica, and a few other countries. Feedback from all those countries is needed.

I'm not from Brazil, but based on what i know about Brazilian basketball i can tell you a couple of things:

-Most teams aren't franchises, so you can't buy them, since they are non-profit associations. Maybe you can sponsor one and have some control, or create a new one that isn't non-profit.

-As for team costs, i remember that, in 2006, COC/Ribeirao Preto said their team cost about 70.000 reals a month (about 40.000 US dollars), and couldn't cover those expenses.

-There is no purchasing of franchises; if you want to play a state or national tournament ruled by the Confederation, you only had to sign up and pay a small fee. Every year, those tournaments consist of whatever is the amount of teams that signed up.

But, a few days ago a new independent league was launched, formed by 20 clubs that created an association; don't know if that situation changed.

technically ownmyteam.com is a not for profit set up in Maine, USA.

40,000 USD a month is so much lower than the teams in Europe. sounds pretty easy to just create an expansion team by just signing up. interesting

What i meant by non-profit is that most clubs can't have an owner; they have associates that vote their authorities. Anyway, some clubs can be owned, in fact some clubs are property of sponsors (Universo/Brasilia, Unitri/Uberlandia, for example)
