World Baseball Classic 2009

Great game between Canada and the US yesterday. I was kind of iffy about whether this tournament would feel like a world championship until I saw the 40,000+ people who filled sky dome yesterday. It felt like a playoff atmosphere, to manage that in early March and in Canada no less is crazy. I'm really getting into this now.

I was amazed at the victory of Netherlands. What a win. I am planning to get the skin of the team for my Gaming console. Are you guys interested?

Yes, I was really impressed by the crowds too, especially the crowds in Japan. They've filled their stadiums.

Who is doing the commentary on ESPN for the East Asian games? The guy is very, very knowledgeable (it seems). He knows all the players, their positions with their clubs, their statistics, and their histories. He also really seems to know the leagues over there. I wish we had more basketball commentators like that (even for the ESPN NBA broadcasts, of which Hubie Brown is the only guy who seems to know a thing).

Orestes Destrade. He played in Japan.
OK. Isn't he pretty good? He just knows the players and the teams very well. I wish Reggie Miller and Mike Fratello knew as much about the basketball teams instead of just talking about people's suits.

in baseball, it's tradition for the teams to give a report of their roster, with some info of their player to the commentators before every game.

Mexico lost 17 to 7 to AUS
venezueal lost 15 to 5 to the US

ESPN actually has good baseball commentators, they've been showing baseball so long they'd almost have too. Too bad they fail at Basketball so hard.

Netherlands led Puerto Rico 1-0 into the eighth inning but PR came back to win 3-1.

Just realized I get MLB Network!

Dag Netherlands not bad, not bad at all...is everyone here routing against DPR? :p

Since u guys r in the mood of baseball here's a pic that u might enjoy :D

(I definitely wouldn't want to be in this guys' position :) )

I actually learn something about baseball when I watch these WBC games. With basketball, it's just opposite. My brain atrophies when I hear the ESPN/TNT crews (with the exception of Hubie Brown, Bob Knight, and maybe a scant few other NCAA guys). Seriously, Dick Vitale yelling into the microphone "diaper dandy, baby!" or Jeff Van Gundy saying "he sucks" doesn't help my enjoyment or education at all.

Nice pick, Khalid.

I'm not rooting against the DPR, Bobo. I mean, yeah, it really bugs me with all the steroid controversies, but I'm not rooting against them. I'm actually rooting for all the skinny guys playing for Tapei and HK. I just love to see them throw those curve balls.

You do know that Taiwan (Republic of China or China Taipei) was eliminated like 4 dyas ago, right :D LOL

Anyway, Let's go AUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW who knew Italy was gonna pull out that impressive win against Canada :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I kind of saw Canada getting upset, too many people during the Venezuela/US game kept dismissing Italy, basically penciling in the loser vs Canada in a dramatic elimination game. Italy/Canada was begging to be an upset.

A couple of the Italian players have even visited Italy at some point in their lives!

I liked seeing the semi-pro South Africans give Mexico a run for six innings yesterday. The tournament would be a little more fun if there were a few more total outsider teams.

The new format for early rounds this year is an improvement IMO...something on the line in every game and no need for tiebreakers.

Pool A
Korea
Japan
Cuba

Pool B
United States
Puerto Rico
Venezuela
Netherlands

Australia vs Mexico for the last spot on Pool A
USA .vs. Venezuela for the Group C
Puerto Rico vs Netherlands for the Group D

Am I the only one who think that THE NETHERLAND has the better pitching and defense in this event.........mn......

where's the American pitching ????

and why didn't Dominicans have a fisrtbaseman ??? not even one

wasn't Venezuela a force in pitching too , (5 to 15 against the US)

wow the US can at least know they won't be the biggest embarrassment in this tournament...provided they don't lose to the Dutch twice too.
