UConn easily won the ACC opener vs Southern Methodist (96-45) and coach Geno Auriemma became the all-time leader in winning percentage with an 888-134 record. Moriah Jefferson scored a career-high 24 pts (adding 5 steals) for the winners.
Australian twins Alicia and Keely Froling of SMU had identical score (7 pts) on same FG shooting (3/7), with Alicia adding a FT and Keely hitting a three.

UConn's dominance in ACC continued with a big win over Duke 83-52, in a game that was close just in first half. Huskies were again led by Moriah Jefferson (18 pts) but all starters scored in double digits. Sr Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis went past Maya Moore in school's history 3-pt made and is now second behind Diana Taurasi by just three. Duke's best scorers were freshman Azurà Stevens and sr Elizabeth Williams.

National leading scorer Kelsey Plum led unranked Washington with 32 pts in upset of #5 Texas A&M, that suffered its second loss in a row.

In another upset, Swedish center Amanda Zahui (20 pts + 15 reb) led unranked Minnesota over #10 Nebraska in Big10 opener, 72-69. It was this season's ninth double-double scored by soph Zahui (who redshirted her freshman year), a former Swedish NT junior star.

Soph Leticia Romero of Spain, a Kansas State transfer, made her debut with Florida State contributing with 6 pts, 6 reb and 6 ast to Seminoles' win over Jacksonville in the final non-conference game. FSU is now 13-1 and would probably deserve a place in the top-25. While at KSU, Romero finished the 2013-14 season as one of the best freshmen prospect.

Another top-soph, guard Kaela Davis scored a career-high 35 pts for Georgia Tech, winning the local Holiday Tournament over Louisiana Tech.

Injury toll of the first part of current season is already high. Among others:

Jr fw Xylina McDaniel (UNC) sidelined with lower leg injury, she underwent surgery last week and could miss the remainder of the season.

Former UConn fw Michala Johnson, now at U. of Wisconsin as a 5th-yr senior, torn her ACL early in December. She was an All-Big 10 last season.

Two promising frewhmen, Lynee Belton of Duke and Regan Magarity of Viriginia Tech also suffered season-ending injuries. Fw Belton with torn ACL and Magarity with a calf injury that will probably sideline for the rest of season. Magarity was the Hokies' leading scorer.

Different case is Texas Christian's Alexia Standish, a jr guard and Texas A&M transfer, who decided to leave the team by mid-Dec, to pursue an academic career program within TCU.

Fw soph Stephanie Mavunga was nearly perfect in FG shooting (13/14) as she scored 26 for UNC easy win over East Tennessee St. That's a career-high for Mavunga, who already earned international experience with the 2011 U16 NT at the Fiba Americas.

In Div.I stats as at 12/31/2014, there's a remarkable performance from Jr Fw Jillian Alleyne (Oregon) who is #1 in double-doubles with 11 on 11 games played. Alleyne is also #1 in RPG (14.6).

Sr guard Brittany Hrynko of DePaul scored a career-high 38 pts in yesterday's win over Georgetown, 105-85. Hnrynko almost had a double-double as she also finished with 9 asts (and 4 stls).

Kaleena Mosqueda-Kewis tied Diana Taurasi's record at UConn with 318 3-pointers, in yesterday's blow-out of Tulsa 98-60.
UConn shot over 64% on FG (better than FT%) and was led by Moriah Jefferson's 22 pts and Morgan Tuck 21. Jefferson scored 4 threes on 4 attempts and Tuck finished with 10/12 FG-shooting. Both are at top national level this season. Center Kiah Stokes was held scoreless but contributed with 7 blocks.

Soph guard Adrienne Motley scored a career-high 32 pts for Miami on 13/19 FG shooting, in yesterday's Notre Dame upset 78-63.

Freshman guard Kelsey Mitchell almost scored a triple double in Ohio State rout of Indiana (103-49), as she finished with 25 pts (hitting 5 on 5 three-pointers), 9 reb and 8 asts (+ 3 stls). Her junior teammate Ameryst Alston, also a guard, topped all scorers with 27 on 11/16 FG shooting and dished out 6 asts.

Florida State beat #13 Duke 74-58 with another big game from Adut Bulgak, 18 pts + 18 reb. FSU, still unranked in the Top25, is one of the most underrated teams.

Other outstanding performances from two top-freshmen yesterday.

Notre Dame's fw Brianna Turner had 29 pts (on 10/13 FG), 18 reb and 7 blocks in Irish win over North Carolina 89-79. Notre Dame is currently ranked #7.

Ohio State's g Kelsey Mitchell scored 36 pts, hitting a school record 9 threes (on 20 attempts), but her effort wasn't enough and her team lost to Minnesota 76-72. Mitchell is the current Div I scoring leader.

Oregon State extended its best start in Pac-12 to 5-0 (15-1 overall) narrowly winning over Wash State 73-70, after rallying back in the second half from a 16-pt deficit.
In the process, jr Canadian big center Ruth Hamblin set her new scoring record to 31 pts on 12/16 shooting and added 16 reb + 7 blocks.

It's a head-to-head battle between two "Kelsey" players for Div I scoring award. Both freshman Kelsey Mitchell (Ohio State) and soph Kelsey Plum (Washington) are averaging around 25ppg. In yesterday's rout of Oregon, Plum scored 35 pts (among them 4-threes) with a remarkable 12/19 FG shooting. She completed her outstanding performance with 7/7 from the line and 5 assists (vs 0 to).

#3 Baylor continued its surprising winning streak (16th straight) after disposing of Texas 75-58. Lady Bears were again led by super soph fw Nina Davis, who is averaging nearly 22 ppg. Sr fw Nneka Enemkpali of Texas injured her left knee early in the game and was forced off the court.

Jr guard Jewell Loyd led Notre Dame over Tennessee 88-77, scoring 34 pts, her third 30+ pts performance this season. Irish should enter now the Top-5 ranks. Loyd currently leads ND in scoring (21-5ppg) and steals.

Sr forward Nneka Enemkpali suffered a torn ACL on her left knee and is lost for the season.
She ends her career at Texas as the season's leading scorer, averaging 12.4ppg and 10.rpg in 17 games.

Duke beat North Carolina in OT in a rivalry-classic. Sr center Elizabeth Williams scored a career-high 33 pts for Duke and grabbed 10 reb.

Another career-high (36 pts) was scored by Swedish super-soph center Amanda Zahui for Minnesota in a losing effort vs Rutgers. Zahui also collected 15 reb. Soph guard Tyler Scaife topped Rutgers with 28 pts, her season's high.

UConn's sr center Kiah Stokes scored a triple-double (10 pts, 11 reb and school-record 10 blks) in an easy win over East Carolina 87-32.

But she wasn't alone in her yesterday's performance, as Minnesota Amanda Zahui finished with 16 pts, 13 reb and 12 blks in Gophers' win over Penn State 75-64. It was the second triple-double of Swedish center's NCAA career.

Princeton having an awesome season.
Still unbeaten, Tigers yesterday mauled Harvard 96-46, shooting nearly 60% from the field. Currently ranked #19, but ready to enter Top-10?

Oregon State is another team having an outstanding season, with an overall record of 19-1 (only loss vs Tennessee) and 9-0 within Pac-12, their best start ever so far.
#7 Beavers are led by two young Canadian players, guard Jamie Weisner (she top scored her team at the 2013 U19 WC) and center Ruth Hamblin. Oregon St beat yesterday South California with a strong defensive effort, 68-35. Weisner contributed with 21 pts and Hamblin recorded 9 reb and 8 blocks.
