Women's NCAA

Iowa's 5'9" senior point guard Samantha Logic ('92) was named a second-team ESPN All-American. Logic is the only women’s basketball player in NCAA history to collect at least 1,400 points, 800 rebounds, 800 assists and 200 steals in a career. She is the NCAA's active career assists leader & ranks 14th in NCAA history.

On ESPN 2, in a couple of minutes, two of the best senior point guards in women's college basketball will face each other. Iowa's 5'9" Sam Logic vs American University's 5'10" Jen Dumiak. Terrific match up of, in my opinion, two legitimate WNBA players.

D1 of NCAA tournament with a couple of near-upset, as Duke and Texas survived with close wins vs Albany and Western Kentucky.
RS Freshman Rebecca Greenwell scored a final three (finishing 6/13 from long range) to give Blue Devils the pass for the second round.
Remarkable performance of Texas' center Imani McGee-Stafford who scored 24 pts (on 10/13 FG shooting and 4/4 FT) and collected 15 reb.
Another double-double from Amanda Zahui B. (21 pts + 22 reb) wasn't enough for Minnesota, defeated by DePaul 79-72.

No big suprises in D2 of NCAA tourney's first round, except the loss of Texas A&M to Arkansas Little Rock.

#1 UConn cruised through the first game as expected, shooting an impressive 64% form the field. Morgan Tuck topped all scorers with 26 pts and 12/13 FG, adding 8 assists. Freshman teammate Gabby Williams was perfect in shooting with 7/7 FG and 6 reb in just 14' action.

Dayton and Gonzaga reach Sweet 16 after upset wins over Kentucky and Oregon State.

Flyers beat Wildcats with a great game from fw Ally Malott, 28 pts (and 3 threes) + 13 reb. UK soph Makayla Epps led all scorers with 29.

Canadian players in the spots at the all-west classic, with Zag center Emma Wolfram leading the way with 17 pts and Beaver Jamie Weisner topping all scorers with 24.

Princeton winnning streak ended at 31-1 after losing to Maryland in Round 2 (Laurin Mincy 27 pts with 6/7 FG3 and 7 ast).

Stephanie Mavunga led North Carolina with 27 pts and 14 reb over Ohio State 86-84, despite Ameryst Alston 30 pts and Kelsey Mitchell 25 (and 6 ast). Hero of the game was freshman Jamie Cherry who hit a three at the buzzer deciding the game, after UNC blew a 20+lead in 2nd half.

Naismith Finalists:

Jewell Loyd
Tiffany Mitchell
Breanna Stewart
Amanda Zahui B.

Despite Samantha Logic triple-double (13 pts, 10 reb and 14 ast) -her second this season- Iowa lost to Baylor, led by Sune Agbuke 23 pts. Sam Logic ends her collegiate career third at national level in apg. Baylor will face Notre Dame in Elite Eight on Sunday.

South Carolina and Florida State survive in close contests vs North Carolina and Arizona State, and will meet on Sunday as well.

UConn routed Texas 105-54 behind impressive performances of PoY candidate Breanna Stewart (31 pts, 12 reb and 7 ast) and senior guard Moriah Jefferson (25 pts on 10/12 FG shooting and 6 ast). With this game Geno Auriemma reaches the 100-win mark in NCAA tournament, preceeded just by Pat Summitt (112).

Dayton upset Louisville to advance to E-8, with sr guard Andrea Hoover perfect from the FT line (15/15).

South Carolina and Notre Dame reach F-4, a first time achievement for Gamecocks and the fifth straight for Lady Irish.

Besides leading scorer Tiffany Mitchell, soph center Alaina Coates was perfect in FG shooting with 6/6 for SC.

Soph guard Lindsay Allen scored a career-high 23 pts for Notre Dame, while teammate Michaela Mabrey went 4/4 on FG3-shooting.

Sr Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis broke the NCAA record in three pointers with 393. She was yesterday 7/10 beyond the arc, and UConn reached its 8th straight F4. Huskies' starting five scored 89 of 91 total points in a game that was kept even by Dayton in the first half.

Maryland is the other semi-finalist after beating Tennessee and could represent a surprise at the F4.

AP All-America Teams:

First Team

Jewell Loyd, Notre Dame
Breanna Stewart, Connecticut
Amanda Zahui B., Minnesota
Nina Davis, Baylor
Tiffany Mitchell, South Carolina

Second Team

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, Connecticut
Kelsey Mitchell, Ohio State
Elizabeth Williams, Duke
Moriah Jefferson, Connecticut
Brittany Boyd, California

Third Team

Lexie Brown, Maryland
Samantha Logic, Iowa
Jillian Alleyne, Oregon
A'ja Wilson, South Carolina
Ruth Hamblin, Oregon State
Reshanda Gray, California

Breanna Stewart is the only second Husky to get consecutive first team honors after Maya Moore, Kelsey Mitchell (DI top scorer) and A'ja Wilson are freshmen, first team's Nina Davis and Amanda Zahui (from Sweden) are soph.

Swedish soph sensation Amanda Zahui B. could enter the WNBA draft, as international players are draft-eligible at 19.

Also junior All-American guard Jewell Loyd would be draft-eligible, as she's reached 22.

Double honor for junior Breanna Stewart, winner of Wade Trophy as WBCA PoY and voted PoY for the second straight season by AP.

She was joined on WBCA All-American team by teammates Kaleena Mosqueda Lewis and Moriah Jefferson, by Brittany Boyd (California), Nina Davis (Baylor), Samantha Logic (Iowa), Jewell Loyd (Notre Dame), Tiffany Mitchell (South Carolina), Elizabeth Williams (Duke) and Amanda Zahui B. (Minnesota).

In AP voting Stewart preceeded Jewell Loyd.

Geno Auriemma tied John Wooden's 10 NCAA titles record as UConn beat Notre Dame, 63-53.

Huskies basically won with their starting five, which scored 59 pts.

It was also the third Final Four MVP honor for junior Breanna Stewart, a women's game record, tying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (aka Lew Alcindor) who made it for John Wooden in the late 1960s.

Earlier in the weekend, UCLA won the WNIT edging West Virginia 62-60, behind 31 pts scored by freshman Jordin Canada, her season's high.

Notre Dame junior guard Jewell Loyd declared herself eligible for the WNBA draft.

This is somewhat surprising as both media and school had previously confirmed Loyd's return to ND for her senior year.

Loyd, who is 22, would join in the Draft Amanda Zahui B, another undergraduate. Both could be picked at the first two places.

Another award won by junior Breanna Stewart, named John Wooden 2015 PoY.

Jewell Loyd finished a close second in the race, followed by Tiffany Mitchell, Nina Davis and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis.
