Will Ramadan's demands play a part in these Worlds?

I'm not a Muslim, but it seems like more Muslims will be playing in this WC than ever before. Most of the event coincides with Ramadan; how will this affect the Muslim athletes? Do Muslims traveling to foreign nations for sports get exemption from some demands of Ramadan?

In Asia, the Championships was held a month earlier at the request of the West Asian teams so they could observe Ramadan properly.

Thanks for the thread. This World Championship will indeed have many countries where the majority of the populations are Muslim participating in this event and they are:

1) Turkey
2) Tunisia
3) Lebanon
4) Jordan
5) Iran

However I don't believe any of the athletes on these teams will be fasting or be able to fast during such a demanding tournament especially considering that Ramadan is falling during August-September of this year.
Olajuwon (who was a devout Muslim) used to actually play in NBA games while he was fasting but he was really an extraordinary individual to be able to do so as this is definitely a very difficult feat to do.

Another issue is that the Eid Islamic holiday will be falling on the 10th-11th of Spetember so I don't know if the Turkish fans would go to attend the games since usually Eid is the time where u usually spend with the family.

Turkey is the worst place for vacation during Ramadan (for non-muslims). You get woken up at 0330 by the imam chanting verses from the Qur'an every day. And the guy is pretty loud! I really like to go to Turkey for vacation, but definitely not during Ramadan. I hope our athletes will be in a secluded area somewhere.
As for Ramadan affecting muslim athletes... I'm sure it will not affect the Turkish players. The Turks aren't really the most pious muslims in the world. They have a saying that "God is watching during the day, and during the night he's asleep". Which is why they only drink during the night.

turks like partying then, i know jesus did. i mean u can turn water into wine, that's an automatic skill that can get you into any of the sweetest parties in college

I think that's not an issue. People also like to go out and have fun during those days.
The interesting things is, there's gonna be a nationwide referendum on September 12. I wonder how that will affect the tournament.

That's what I said in my previous post! I've been to Turkey several times. I definitely like it more than Montenegro, or Croatia. You've heard the joke:
A Montenegrin and a Serb are talking to each other,

Yeah, I like to mock my muslim friends when we are drinking together too. One of them gets really sad and upset when he's drinking... He says that he's making Allah cry.

I don't know much about it, but my guess is that Muslim athletes will not fast and that it won't be a big issue in their home countries. From what I understand, lots of people do not fast for all of Ramadan (of course, a lot of people do). The athletes certainly won't fast during the tournament, but perhaps they will a few days before or after.

wow. .i didnt know that turks arent that religious. .there are a lot of Turkish in my school(wmsu)here in zamboanga. .they always look serious every time i see them..back to the topic. .i think it will only affect those who are faithful to Islam.most of them would be the players from Tunisia.Jordan?probably. . .

I bet if jesus was a brit or german he'd b invited to all those frat parties out there, all the beer bongs and chuggfest would be compliments of the man.
