I was wondering why they decided to make the offenses last 24'' and not 25 or 30?

Danny Biasone, owner of the Syracuse Nationals, came up with 24 seconds because of his "observations, experience and simple arithmetic." Since a NBA game is 48 minutes, which is 2880 seconds, he then divided 2880 by 120 (the total if both teams took 60 shots) and we have 24.
