Michel Platini - France
Pele - Brazil

I voted for Zinedine Zidane. My favourite footballer.

What's wrong with you putting Beckham in same line with those players... :D

Beckham, Messi? Are you kidding me? :p
I don't believe in that sort of "best of the best" voting though - most guys from this list were/are really great, and there are no criteria for chosing THE best... only personal favoritism...

I think that the adjective of 'Football' is actually 'Footballer'...

And Beckham #1 candidate in your list? Jeezuz...

Come one, guys. Pele is the obvious choice. I'm from a country that doesn't even call the game football and even I know the answer. ;)

I recognize most of the names, so I think the other reasonable choices are Beckenbauer and Maradona.

Beckham ? ! Messi ? Banks ? Ronaldinho ? :D :D

I voted for my favorite player, ROBERTO BAGGIO
his fans never forget this picture :

but i think Maradona is best of the best.

You remembered Eusébio :D He's often forgotten is these things. It's between Pelé and Maradona imo.
PS: I think Cruyff is missing there.

I really think such topics are useless. Sport evolves.

Off the top of my head many greats are missing, i.e Cryuff, Di Stefano, Garincha, Romario, Baresi, Van Basten etc

I think choices should be broken up in decades. If that was the case then it would be:

50's Puskas
60's Pele
70's Cruyff
80's Maradona
90's Romario
00's Zidane

Personnally, I would say Makelel when he was at Real. No ball could pass in the middle court without touching his feet...

It’s something called putting everything in alphabetical order…

Wait until he finishes his career … then you’ll agree that if he ain’t the “Greatest” he’s definitely in the top 3.

Why the hell Carsten Jancker? :p

As for Beckham: I don't see him as one of the best players of the world. But I think he was very good at about 23-25 years, the time when Man Utd won the CL and he was actually full of energy and did not only rely on free kicks, crosses and passes. I think he reached his peak at 25 already and it started to go downhill since, maybe he's just empty because of all the hype around his person. However, I think all the people who bash him for what he is now simply forget that he was an outstanding player at the beginning of his career.

My favourite has always been Zinedine Zidane. Every trick, even if it looked as if it was coming right out of the circus, had its purpose, but he never did it just to fool the opponent. And nobody has ever had a better ball control. He also scored one of my all-time favourite goals, an impossible volley against Leverkusen in the '02 CL final.

WTF is Messi doing in the list... that guy can only score with his big mouth... there are a lot of Argentinian players that are way better than him... that suppose to be in the list...

Overall, Good Thread! :)

You still don't get it do you? It's actually NOT about alphabetical order... it's about skills...

All Beckham ever got was an accurate right leg, not even using his left... How can you even think of Beckham based on this single attribute and not include the player who ruled everyone at the exact same thing... Ferenc Puskas...

The guy who set the ball in the paint of the old Panathinaikos basketball arena and scored in the other basket with his both feet!!! And all that while being 50 and fat...

You would think that a guy carrying the Uruguayan flag would know a thing or two about football...

For me this list is incomplete without at least Cruyff and Di Stefano.

Anyway id vote for Maradona, regardless of his character, ive seen him doing things with the ball in a match that i still havent seen in any other player.

I see a few put down they voted for someone 'cause that was their favorite player, but I'm going to just state who was the best:

Pele.

Hey these types of comments aren’t necessary. This is a forum where users RESPECT each other ESPECIALLY when you are speaking about someone’s flag. I have NEVER attacked you and I have been OFFENDED the moment you mentioned me carrying my Uruguayan flag with disgrace.

Okay I made a mistake. Get over it. Nobody’s perfect in this world.

I placed Beckham there to give options to those who may not have a clue about football and would select Beckham because he’s one of the sport’s biggest ever pop icon.

Lol, why Beckham is up there ??? :D

Diego Maradonna of course....
