I can't hate Greece, I love too much Christina Stefanidi...latin look a like...

My opinion is based in what I read in this forum. I never meet greek people personally.

I didn't refer NBA anywhere!!! Yes, it's true spanish people doesn't like too much to talk in other languages...

oh I know.I just said that crazy nationalistic stupid opinions come from everywhere just that there are not many from spanish ppl here because most of them can't speak english good enough to come here.

oh,trust me portugeuse and greek ppl are too much alike.;)

How do you expekt people here when everyone here is cursing and hating on our NT team. Last year in eurobaset almost everyone on this forum was hating on the team and celebrating everytime they concedeed a basket, let even stand when they lost. It's just hate and jealousy because of our success.

oh I'm sorry I didn't know that we should create a spanish groupies united <3 <3 forum so spanish people would be encouraged to speak english to us.;)
Anyway, you can't make ppl change opinions, but I'm sure if I found a forum like this,I would say to my friends of the greek bball forum to come here to discuss with other international fans, exchange arguments and in the end that's the point of forums. To argue and talk.

It's just an idea that maybe you should do,because godamnit you are too few and we need more to figh err I mean discuss with, now that WC is coming.:D
Vamos!:)

I wonder why would anyone hate teams like Lithuania or Slovenia. Small countries but great basketball traditions, always play nice bball, don't use unfair help of foreigners (such as "russian" holden etc). I only admire such teams, but even if not admire than at least view neutral. But hate? Its strage :)

Ariel McDonald anyone?

I, personally, admire the sports culture of these countries but I am not a fan of Slovenian players' attitude which makes the final run harder for themselves. In recent tournaments, I don't remember -except '09 maybe- any tournaments that they outreached their potential.

China and France got my votes too, I just don't enjoy the way they play.

h,trust me portugeuse and greek ppl are too much alike.

except one thing ,we have a European championship in football ,they don't :D

or there is another reason and you can't see it .Think, is it possible all the others to be wrong? There is not a single team in the world who played with Spain and left without complains.

Complaining is the most international sport. Anyone can play. Actually we do it a lot in Spain, too :D

Don't you think that in Spain we don't complain about these friendly games we play here in Spain year after year. The refereeing is awful, partial and personally I think it doesn't make any favour to our NT. The last game against Brazil only brought shame on us.

However, I can't see how can someone discuss the result of the last european championship, when we won the last 5 games by 20 points, or the last world championship, whose final we won by a large margin.

I totally agree.

Spain won Greece clearly in the world final of 2006 and in semis of Euro basket in 2009.
Except the Eurobasket semifinal of 2007. The refs helped you in that game but then again it is something which will always happen unfortunately.

Let's not forget that Serbians for many years had the help of refs.
Do you remember the semifinal vs Greece in 1995 in Athens Eurobasket? And the final after vs Lithuanians? The Serbs in 1995 had the refs with them.

I guess you realize that your english is not so good either.

I just registered, so I don't really know how many spanish people use this forum, but I would say that the main reason for that could be that there is a large spanish forum ( foros.acb.com ) where you can discuss about basketball with thousands of users. Also with people from other hispanic countries. Not only about spanish basketball, also NBA and international.

The supposition of spaniards not writing here because they can't speak english shows a very poor knowledge about Spain. Yet it's true a lot of people can't speak good english (or can't speak english at all), everyone under 30 - 35 has some knowledge of English, and a good proportion can speak it decently.

And you're right, there are crazy nationalistic people everywhere. I remember once I chatted with two greek guys that were trying to convince me that Nikos Gallis was better and more dominant than Pau Gasol will ever be.

yes for sure,my english is not perfect since it's not my mother tongue.

I beg to differ about the level of english spoken in Spain and about the same reason for spanish ppl not coming here.I go both international bball and tennis forums, where Spain is a superpower - and yet the number of spaniards is minimal.I have been in Spain and have witnessed for myself the level of english spoken-almost non existant HOWEVER I'm not spaniard you are,and thus I have no definite proof to disqualify your claim. And it doesn't matter to me.What I would like to see is more spaniards here because it makes the forums much more interesting ( ;) ) and welcome to the forum.I hope more of your friends come as well.

And in the final against Argentina in 2002, too. There are a lot of examples, and not only with Serbia/Yugoslavia.

But all countries suffer bad refereeing sometimes (probably we should exclude the americans). Look the final in the Olympics, I could certainly tell that refs didn't go with us in that one.

Even I don't justify it, I can understand more easily that a ref may tend to favor the local team because of the pressure of the audience. Being a greek fan, I'm sure you will agree :D

"He averaged 33.0 points per game at the 1983 FIBA European Championship, 33.7 points per game at the 1986 FIBA World Championship, 37.0 points per game at the 1987 FIBA European Championship, 35.6 points per game at the 1989 FIBA European Championship, and 32.4 points per game at the 1991 FIBA European Championship. Galis was only a 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) tall combo guard. In every one of the games that Galis played in these tournaments, the entire defense of every opposing team was focused on stopping his scoring outbursts."
In addition,he got medals for Greece, playing with an average NTeam.Pau got medals playing with superstars like him.

Hey, I never said Gallis wasn't a great, dominant player. I will not discuss that here since that's not the topic of the post. I'll just leave this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pau_Gasol .

We are very liberal here.Practically we discuss anything anywhere:D
Anyway, there is no safe way to evaluate who was "better" or more "dominant".Different positions, different teams, different eras, different "historical" occurrences.
Perhaps those two Greek guys were not "crazy nationalistic people" after all.

That's the issue, it's something very subjective, and that's the reason why a greek will take Galis 99% of the times. Same for a spanish and Gasol. The real trouble (for me) comes when someone doesn't even admit a discussion, for example:

...and that's not true? :D

And don't even take in consideration a guy who has always ruled in FIBA competitions, is a star in the best league in the world and has managed all this:

Career highlights and awards
2× NBA Champion (2009, 2010)
NBA Rookie of the Year (2002)
3× NBA All-Star (2006, 2009–2010)
2× All-NBA Third Team (2009–2010)
NBA All-Rookie First Team (2002)
2006 FIBA World Championship MVP
2009 EuroBasket MVP
2001 Spanish King's Cup MVP
2001 Spanish League Finals MVP
2001 All-Euroleague Second Team
2× FIBA Europe Player of the Year (2008–2009)
2× Mister Europa Player of the Year (2004, 2009)
2× Euroscar Player of the Year (2008–2009)

Medal record

Silver 2008 Beijing
Gold 2006 Japan
Bronze 2001 Turkey
Silver 2003 Sweden
Silver 2007 Spain
Gold 2009 Poland

I think we'll see when Gasol's career is over. Both are european basketball legends, but Gasol is in the polls for the best european player ever, and that's not something only said in Spain. I wonder if someone not greek think Nikos Galis may be the greatest.
