Dnipro take Superleague Cup title

Dnipro - Azovamsh 81:79

Dnipro celebrated the victory in the Superleague Cup title game. They held off Azovmash to triumph at the tournament. Steve Burtt (185-G-84, college: Iona) fired 37 points to lead the winners. The guard was trumped the MVP after the game.
It was a close battle from start to finish. The teams were tied at 20 after ten minutes of action. Dnipro spurred in front in the second term and ensured a 44:40 lead at halftime. But Azovmash reacted with a firmer defense in the third quarter. Dnipro scored just 16 points and trailed by three heading into the fourth frame 60:63. But Steve Burtt came up with a bunch of decisive points in the dying seconds of the game to put Dnipro in front. Fred House (195-F-78, agency: Lanshire Group, college: S.Utah) had a chance to win the game for Azovmash but missed a late three-pointer. Denham Brown (198-F-83, agency: Edge Sports, college: Connecticut) provided 22 points, while Mario Austin (206-F/C-82, agency: Strategic Sports, college: Mississippi St.) finished with 8 points and 11 boards in the victory. Ramel Curry (191-G-80, college: CSU Bakersfield) replied with 28 points, 14 boards and 5 assists for Azovmash. Fred House chipped in 13 points in the loss.

Legion team won the All Star Game in Kharkov tonight as the city enjoyed the real basketball event. The foreigners overcame the local players 98:86 as Steve Burtt (185-G-84, college: Iona) was unstoppable for the winners. Steve Burtt won MVP award of the All Star Game. Arabadzhi won three-point contest, while Brian Greene (196-G/F-83, college: Florida A&M) won Slam Dunk show.
Both teams traded some baskets early in the game, while it became noticeable that the Legion team would take control. They netted 26 points for 3-point lead at the end of the first 10 minutes and scored the same number of points in the second frame. Ukraine managed to respond with 20 and trailed 43:52 at the halftime. Both squads netted 17 points each in the third quarter that left the same difference before the final stanza. Legion needed 29:26 in it for the final success.
Steve Burtt top-scored for the winners with 27 points and Brian Greene netted 15. Alan Wiggins (206-F-85, college: USF) delivered 13, while Eric Coleman (200-C-85, agency: Hart Sports Mngm, college: N.Iowa) netted 12. Viacheslav Kravtsov (212-C-87, agency: Beo Basket) responded with 22 points in the losing effort, whilst Maksym Pustozvonov (200-F-87, agency: Beo Basket) added 17. Denys Lukashov (190-G-89) and Rostyslav Kryvych (198-F/G-78) scored 9 points each in the losing effort.
