he could have simply shielded his kid if what his alleging is true.. however, clear from the video that he made the situation worse by rushing to the other side of the court and slugging it out with minors..

Let's not kid ourselves (no pun intended). A lot of those guys, especially the big dudes who rushed to the floor first, are closer to 20 years old than teenage years.
A lot of times, smaller schools try to be competitive against blue-chip schools by using much older and more aggressive players. It's usually an overly physical game to negate the advantages. Alas isn't usually chippy but he got fed up with the cheap shots.
I've seen this many times. Parents will be more emotional when it comes to their kids compared to if they were the ones playing themselves. Especially if his kid is smaller than the opponent. I've even seen a dad look for the other kid's dad just because he needed to punch someone.

Wow, you really are sure. Even if there’s lots of overaged guys playing HS ball, until we get confirmation on their ages, we can’t be sure yet.
But regardless of age, adding flame to altercations on the floor (as a parent or even just as part of the audience) is always a bad look. Regardless of age too, Arejola was a person of authority.
He literally could have just pulled his kid away, or shoved the other guys away from their team. It’s always a bad look to take the fight to the other team. There’s no excuse for that behavior, even if other people have done it.

Its still a high school team. Most of those guys should still be minors. I mean its an nbtc qualifiers game as well so there's already an age limit. And the zobel team that played is also their senior high team so i believe both teams are closer with their age. At the end of the day the zobel crew had the most to lose. Besides already winning by 9 with only a minute left in the game, why did didnt they pull out stars like kiefer alas?
As youve said zobel should have anticipated that arandia would be highly physical and should have briefed the whole party before hand. Im not condoning what those arandia boys did that started the melee but i aint of fan of fully grown adults going at it with minors too. Thats textbook child abuse anyway you look at it and those arandia boys could file charges. I get the emotional thing of being a parent but joining the fracass wasnt really the best move. I mean you can look at the public reaction and majority of it backfired against arejola and the zobel party.

NBTC teams (especially smaller schools/provincial teams) have 20+ year olds. Couple that with the fact that not all kids are created equal. I don't think adults vs "minors" is an automatic "child abuse." Kids can present as much danger as adults which is why some are tried as adults. Mike Tyson was the heavyweight champion of the world at 20 and could kill 99% of grown men when he was 18. If I see a 17 year old Mike Tyson charging at my child, I'd probably need a chair to stop that "minor.".
Arejola is wrong and deserves punishment. But the mental picture being pushed of a "full-grown ass man beating up on physically much inferior children" isn't entirely accurate. Most of the kids were bigger than him, and actually could have seriously hurt him when he fell and was surrounded. Number 31 of Arandia could probably beat up most of the adult forumers here and so could a true 17 year old Alas.
Public reaction/opinion (especially socmed) leaves much to be desired when it comes to being harbinger of truth and justice.

Nbtc teams cant have players above 19. Arandia College is not that of a small school and they're not a provinvial team, they're based in paranaque. Their seniors team used to play in naascu and has played with a couple uaap and ncaa teams in other leagues recently. And have you seen those arandia boys? They're all scrawny teenagers. Sure they're taller but arejole way exceeds them in weight.
If you watched the video it was arejola who was charging at arandia side of the court when officals are trying to de escalate the situation. Unless its life and death, a grown man charging at high school players will never be a good look, especially him fully mounting someone else while punching em in the head repeatedly.
Anytime a person of legal age assaults a minor its automatically a case of child abuse. Ask you lawyer friends, in my line of work ive already come across instances where a simple slap can constituted to such. What more pa actual punches thrown thats why at the end of the day, its arejola and company who's gonna bear the brunt of it. Anyway its highschool kids fighting with highscholl kids, fully grown adults should either let em be or not get involved and pacify. As for the public opinion, the video circulating is clear as day. Again he was the charging at arandia side. Anyways it doesnt also help that he already has a reputation with him also almosy coming into blows against Danny I after a pba game recently. Dude seems like an ahole overall.

That's your opinion and it is right. It is the righteous thing to do. But it's always easy to be righteous in theory. When one is put in a similar situation, one can never be too sure how he would react.
I've been in a similar situation and can only speak from actual experience. Once, my pre-teen son was elbowed by a "kid" at least 3 years older and much bigger. The moment my son retaliated, I immediately rushed between them. I instinctively knew the other "kid" (who's bigger than me) could seriously hurt him. Thankfully he stopped and that was it, but if he continued attacking my son or if other people joined in, I'm not sure what would have happened. Me rushing to them was wrong on various levels (and I almost got kicked out), but for me it was the right thing to do.
I'm not defending Arejola. I'm just giving people a perspective on why these things could happen. In my case, the fact that the kid was 15-16 did not matter, he could seriously hurt my son just as much as an adult could so I did what I did.

The situation with your kid could have gone worse but good thing calmer heads prevailed. But in the zobel-arandia game what really started the melee was kiefer alas committing an unspo, tho not really clear with what he did, he apparently threw a fist to his opponent. Other extra curicular things couldve happend before that and the alas unspo might have just opened the floodgates but lets not act like the zobel boys are completly innocent too. Seemed like they also returned the favor. And in other videos just when things were starting to get pacified i saw someone from arandia threw a ball at arejola and the other parents' direction (dumb move for sure) and i think thats when arejola charged towards them. Now was that justified? Not anymore imo.
Siguro for things like this to be avoided, game officials should be more assertive with their control of the game. Especially with student and minors being involved. Their safety should be the utmost importance. Not sure with how competent the league is but nbtc entrusted them with their qualification process for their national championships.
Anyways for more info, spin just released an article that arandia will pursue charges against arejola and the other parents that got joined in the brawl, furthermore, 6 players from arandia's were apparently hurt. We'll see how the lawyers and the court handle this.

Mr. Arejola should release a statement on the matter along with any video evidence that he or the Junior Archers have on the game. He's taking a beating on social media. I haven't seen the whole game so I have no idea on how much physicality was permitted. We know Kiefer Alas has not been involved in any fracas in the past so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. True the elders were hot under the collar but some Arandia players were asking for trouble by still going after the Zobel players who were already returning to their side of the court. All in all my opinion is league officials lost control of this game.

For the adults that got involved in the melee, no, they were not protecting their children. Their actions were driven by their egos and temper. Instead of de-escalting the situation, they just made things worse by inciting more violence. In the video, you could see that a DLSZ player was playing peacemaker and got hit by a cheap shot since things got out of control after the adults got involved. Instead of protecting their kids, they exposed them to even more danger.

Btw this idea of the school president to sue Arejola is a bad idea. If its true that his son was also punched as the reports are saying then he could easily countersue and the richer side probably wins there since they have the resources to grind in court. No guarantee that the school president has the same appetite especially once resources are being drained.

Arejola is now a RSA guy. RSA takes care of his guys when it comes to cases. He protected Malonzo, Romeo and those were against higher profile people.

Imo, its good that they're pursuing this since there's clear evidence of what the adults did, while arejola and company still needs to prove what they allege in court. And even if the zobel party countersue, if the arandia assailants are minors, they wont be criminally liable while the other hand arejola and the other company are. From the looks of it this is prolly the reason why the zobel party hasnt released a statement yet. Either they need things to cool down or they're still gathering evidences for their defence.
As for the Rich always wins adage, it may actually bite em back. While public opinion is never admissible in court, no judge will attempt to screw this up due to the backlash they might face from it, heck no politician will touch this, even ones from la salle since itll negatively affect em in the next election. It helps that arandia is channeling david v goliath vibes and them pursuing this could bring positive spotlight to the school. They might believe that a school defending their own may lead to increased enrollees.

Upom reading the full article he doesnt plan on leaving yet. He said thats there has been interests but he's not really entertaining any of it in the moment. Seems like if they wont have their way that sga will handle the program, they atleast want a coach that could win. He and the rest of the of the phenom boys are in a wait and see approach til ue hires their head coach.
Imo, best options are Coach E and Coach Boycie. Aside from winning it with NU, coach eric altamirano has done wonders when it comes to our grassroots program, and this could greatly boost ue's recruitment in the future. As for coach boycie, most of the ue peeps i know seem to want an alumni to take over. He's also had some success with the program before and maybe 3rd time is the charm for him with the red warriors. Also note that both coaches are favored by phenom.

Arejola was one of my high school hoop heros (played in the post-Perry Ronquillo and pre-Juno Sauler days of Zobel hoops so his coach was Elmer Reyes who wasn't and X's and O's guy and just wanted to push the ball quicker than the defense could set up). Just seeing him get on the 2001 DLSU roster after 4 years on Team B was like Rudy Ruettiger for Notre Dame. The guy willed his way to being relevant enough in basketball to have a career out of it as if that's the only thing he knew what to do despite the fact that there were definitely way more talented PG's in his era who are literally driving taxis in the province now... because they never went to a La Salle or an Ateneo.
Some of you might be too young to remember or even unaware of an oddly identical incident 10 years ago in Cebu, football match between Ateneo de Cebu and a provincial high school team from Alcoy town. Alcoy player slide tackles an Ateneo de Cebu player from behind (a risky move that merits a red card if tackle doesn't even touch the ball or slighty touches another foot first), Ateneo player goes down, then some adult from the crowd invades the pitch and lays a beatdown on the Alcoy player, then other adults got involved either trying to stop the fight or join in, it looked ugly on still photos but it looked even uglier on Cebu's social media: you got the burgis and predominantly Chinoy side actually condoning the guy (who later identified as a Tito, not a dad of the player) with the "I would do anything to protect my son" argument followed by the more-ridiculous "Would you take a kick from a 5'7 minor in cleats?" argument against every online troll imaginable that could speak Bisaya. As a then-resident of Cebu those days, I thought it was fckng hilarious... just like how I saw this one.
I don't feel any sort of emotional connection to Zobel anymore like I did when I went to college over two decades ago. Maybe it's because of the fact that I saw from the outside looking in how the school changed from being this bastion of well-roundedness and balance to that school where artistas and kids that play golf and now pickleball as a pastime go to. But yeah, it is what it is here.
