The exemption for guys like Ladi, who only spend one or two years in the collegiate ranks before going to the PBA, is kind of difficult—unlike for players who spend their full college years at their school, like Phillips or Kouame. So, I expect Ladi to get an exemption similar to how Newsome and Slaughter got theirs—roughly ten years of playing in the country.
Maybe it's just me, but if SBP pushes for Phillips’ exemption right after he graduates from DLSU, it would hold more weight. He literally spent his full six years at DLSU. FIBA seems to emphasize a player's education more than their professional stint, so I don’t think Phillips would need to get drafted into the PBA to earn an exemption. But we all know the PBA leaders would still want him to play in their league.
Added fact here is that Motor Mike is a fluent Tagalog speaker and he learned it here - that's an evidence that he really embraced the Philippines as his home.
