So our locals can have a chance? Kinda dilutes the prestige of winning the MVP

backwards nationalism strikes again!

A local just won back-to-back MVP. We've had guys like Mbala, Ange, Malick, Chabi Yo, Tounkara, and Momowei, but FSA's are usually role players. Come on.

The award is counter productive, having the locals compete with FSAs for the MVP raises the bar

Right? Why would they do this when KQ proved locals can compete with FSAs.

and for the past 25 years the only FSAs who won MVP were Mbala (2016-2017), Bright (2018), Chabi Yo (2019), Ange (2021) and Diouf (2022), thats roughly 24% of the MVPs for this century. In a era of FSA we had Kiefer, BRP and KQ winning back to back so i dont see the point for this.

Non of the current batch of FSA's (seniors) are dominant anyways, non that can really run away as automaric mvp's. Nowadays most of the fsa's are role players at best.

Its official

I wonder whats the figure they were able to agree upon. Gavina may have the connections but most of these recruits will still go for the moolah and prestige the bigger schools have. Especially the cream of the crop ones. Imo Gavina and UE needs to be bring something to the table (besides playing time) to scoop up the top recruits.

It is now Momowei's turn to announce where he will play.

i think they did a great job adjusting the computation for mvp. Theres much less gaurd stats a.k.a assists compared to rebounds . They should not weigh the same in the mvp stats voting. That was enough of a change

IMO i think they should go to Coach Gavinas connections through Filam Nation Select and his connections abroad.

i dont think all Fil Ams are after the moolah they just want exposure.

meanwhile Momowei and Whyte (their team B FSA) showed up earlier during the short ceremony of introducing Coach Gavina.

And UE can offer them exposure + stat inflation

Imo Momowei and abate should just stay. They dont have a lot options compared to their fellow phenom boys in ue. Abate is in his last year of his eligibility so its either stay or turn pro early. Momowei's options naman is either play one and done with another uaap school or go to a non ncaa school. Both option will limit his earnings and exposure. They have more to lose if they move out.

As for the filfors, it may depend. If the player is already established or sought after, they'll most likely follow the money. Look at sean alter. If he wanted exposure he could have gone to san beda, he would get all the minutes he can and probably be a perennial mvp contender there lording over undersized bigs. Instead he went to up to play limited minutes as part of loaded front court. Same thing with zain mahmood or alex konov who went to more 'prestigous' options. Its the players that has alot to prove that gavina can lure with the promise of playing time.

So i guess it's safe to say that Momowei will stay in UE. Meanwhile I'm quite surprised that DLSU gave the green signal for Mason Amos to play for Gilas in Doha.

Mason Amos playing for Gilas is a win for them anyway, he will learn a lot of things resulting to his improvement that would just help DLSU.

Havent heard anything yet from phenom and i heard almost everyone in the lineup (minus the filfors who are reportedly not in the country) was present in the press con yesterday so we'll see.

I just hope that it will be an injury free tournament for him.
