UAAP season 87

  • Thread starter Thread starter Silent Killer2

Whatever happened to Fil-Aussie James Nacua going to DLSU? He would be joining his fellow Phenom talents CJ Austria, Earl Abadam, KQ, Vhoris Marasigan, Jake Gaspay and Bright Nwanko to name a few in DLSU.

DLSU got commitments to a couple Fil-Ams; Justin Buenaventura and Kyle Perez.

baclaan, remogat, jacob? dunno the other 2

I thought Remogat was being pursued by another school. Didn't know it was DLSU tbh.

I feel like whoever should succeed Evan has the same skillsets. Remogat and Baclaan (and with how Jacob is now) would need the ball in their hands all the time. That was the Evan Nelle hero ball special. But with KQ there, hopefully we have better options

topex personally scouting jacob lol.

Been keenly listening to Topex commentary and he doesnt seem to like Jacob. Post game, he replied to Anton with this "Im hoping Jacob gets the chance to defend his title with San Beda next year" or something like that.

Unless...

I've been saying this...having 6'8+ players suddenly popping up is no longer as rare for us like in decades past.

The problem is, all of them get discovered at around 15 years old and are still very raw and slow. Almost every time, they just started playing basketball. This while you have millions of sub 6-foot kids who started playing when they were still very young.

Such a mind-boggling waste of opportunity.

lsgh u13 team has a 6'2 and 6'3 kids in their lineup

Unless they became breadwinners since they get significant allowances..I dont get this private universities on why they cant offer blue chp recruits scolarships for immediate family..

Well i can personally confirm this kind of perk happens, my aunt got recruited and used to play women's volleyball for Ust tigresses way back in the 80's, she asked if her sister(my mom) can study with her in ust since they both came from the provinces. Ust agreed and both were given scholarships and ended up as thomasian graduates and earned their respective degrees haha. I guess the perks nowadays are more for convinience and practicality like, cars, place of residence or quick cash.

this was actually quite the norm before and was back then the easiest recruitment pitch to do, however times have changed and the family of these blue chips would rather ask for a lump sum amount to fund a sibling's 4-5 year education in a school of their choice instead.

why? as insurance just in case there'll be a falling out or worse the recruit doesn't play as expected which then compromises his siblings education. it also offers them more flexibility just in case they want to transfer or leave school early.

funny, but i was told that its the african foreign students (well majority of them) are ironically the ones diligently attending their classes and having no problems with their academics - and that its the filams who are the real high maintenance recruits of the bunch.

isnt Isiah just an add on to Mike and Ben? that should be fall into your statement.

Same with Slaughter. he was recruited by UC. UV intercepted him with scholarships for his cousins (multiple) apart fromr additional perks offered to him.

Aside from a few head cases most of them take their studies seriously. And they integrate themselves well with the local culture too unlike some fil-foreign snobs who don't even bother to learn some basic local words. Probably because most of them don't have any pro bball career to fall back on. Many end up getting a regular 9-5 jobs and play as hugot on the sides.

i think its because these african students are just grateful to get out of their countries and be in a better situation. some of them really come from poverty far worse than filipinos and are just happy to have lodgings, free meals and an education.

Kevin Guibao a 6'2"-6'3" wing. former cesafi juniors finals MVP.. San Beda and letran will have 3 and 1 former FEU tams respectively for season 100. those are quality players actually its just FEU don't know how to use them..
No offense, sir, but FEU don't know how to use players that aren't guards. You guys need a change in approach, in terms of player usage and recruitment strategy.

I'm talking about starting playing at around 7 way before growth spurt. Pinoys' big growth spurt usually occur at 11-14.

Doesn't have to be serious ball. Something fun but at the same time teaching the kids how to move well and play in a team setting (does not have to be basketball). That is the cure to avoid becoming a stiff.

Funny that I know quite a few filams (albeit all from the same school) and they all treat academics seriously. You're right about FSA's though, they're mostly serious students. Obasa was an architectural student in Dubai and actually went against his father's wishes shifting away from that. Needless to say, he did not neglect his studies.

They possess the Immigrant Mentality/Drive.
