UAAP season 87

  • Thread starter Thread starter Silent Killer2
  • Start date Start date
With only two game days left, KQ can't be overtaken so he will be the back-to-back MVP unless he gets DQd for some reason. Mike, Konateh and JD are also sure things for the Mythical five (unless they get DQd for some reason also).

The last slot in the Mythical 5 is the only one up for grabs. I think Cabanero deserves it.

I really wanted Forthsky to get M5. He's suffered enough and I personally want something to go his way. Oh well, if it's not him at least it's his teammate.

Suffered enough? WTF

Anyway, he already was a Mythical Five member in his last year playing for Ateneo. I want Cabanero to be named as an awardee this time, as a reward for sticking it out with UST when he could have left last year or this year, to be honest.

With major additions like Stevens, Bayla, and QMB, UP remains the favorite on paper. They’ve brought in a D1-caliber, 6’10” player while keeping most of their main roster intact.

Meanwhile, DLSU has lost key players: their primary PGs (Nelle and Nonoy), a versatile forward (Policarpio), downgraded their FSA to Henry, and lost their sharpshooter, Escandor—nearly their entire rotation.

Until we see UP at full strength with Final Four intensity, I still have them as the favorites.

I still have them as even, no one would be the favorite.

UP had major additions (though of the people you mentioned, only QMB is considered major to me), but they did lose an MVP in Malick Diouf and a clutch player in Cansino.

I am not counting Stevens as a major addition if you're not counting Agunanne as a major addition to DLSU. Both are in the same boat--- anticipated transferees who are underperforming.

I'll go by with what the ruling was in the trial. Frankly speaking, the authorities would know more than we do.

What we do know--- Padrigao knows he did something wrong, and he admitted it. I won't forever crucify him for actions he did in the past as people can change, but the "suffered enough" is too much considering what happened to him was largely his own doing.

OFF-TOPIC: QS already released their Asian Rankings. Here are the top 10 universities in the Philippines:

1. University of the Philippines (Rank 86)
2. Ateneo de Manila University (Rank 142)
3. De La Salle University (Rank 163)
4. University of Santo Tomas (Rank 181)
5. Adamson University (Rank 411-420)
6. University of San Carlos (Rank 481-490)
7. Polytechnic University of the Philippines (Rank 541 – 560)
8. Mapua University (Rank 561-580)
9. Silliman University (Rank 601-620)
10. Far Eastern University (Rank 681-700)

There are many things that our schools need to be done to compete against top schools overseas. One is research, two is more international students, third is allowing foreign educators to teach in our schools and, last, international partnerships and more research.

It's nice to see though that UAAP schools are not only good in sports but also in academics as well.

We also know that the trial is over, and he has served his punishment. It nearly cost him his livelihood—he was forced out of ADMU as an indirect result of the ordeal, and he continues to face fallout as his name is still dragged through the court of public opinion.

I think it's more than enough suffering especially for something we are just speculating on.

Well, Forthsky should be thankful that the Ildefonsos did not sue him for what he did to Pia.

This is why I put a disclaimer that on paper UP should be the favorites. Heading into the season, they've snagged big names, managed to extend JD's eligibility and kept most of their cast whether those big names pan out or not, is within their control.

Whereas DLSU lost almost all their main guys and noticeably missing a great PG rotation.

Honestly, they should have. If they're not satisfied with the ruling of Ateneo, they should have extended the full extent of the law. If found guilty, he should get just punishment.

And be grateful that early-mid 2000s ildefonso mellowed down or else dani himself would have beaten him to death

Looks like Ex dlsu green archer Emman Galman has joined UST. He spent the last couple of years in limbo after reported moves to benilde and letran. Mostly spent the time playing for panalay games.

He is wasting his limited playing years doing residency. He was a scorer in high sch. Sayang!

On paper and prior to the season, yes it was easy to say UP was heavy favorites. But we now all have the benefit of the results of the season so far (e.g. who has panned out, which system has been successful, etc) and it should hands down be DLSU as the clear favorites for the crown. There's a stark difference on how they play versus the rest of the league.

Maybe not what you are referring to, but I do notice a stark difference in demeanor between the UP and DLSU players. For lack of a better term, the UP players seem "frantic" on the floor most especially after a turnover. Whereas the DLSU players seem to shrug off mistakes more easily.

In other news, UP's Team B lost last night to CEU in the UCAL (where DLSU and Adamson are the only other UAAP Team B's participating). Notable result considering that Remogat played.

This guy is good. Very talented. I actually thought he was better than Austria as an off the dribble shot creator. It's just that sometimes he loses his focus and plays too passive. Thats why Pumaren had to yank him in most games and he never really got his spot back in the 2nd round after Austria proved to be more consistent.

Yeah he has some confidence and mental issues. Oart of the reason he didnt push thru with benilde or letran. Benilde accepted him open arms but he was the one that didnt push thru, both not attending classes and practice. Prolly was deeply affected when his mom passed. His move to letran was supposed to be his new start but letran recruiting loads of guys, he didnt prolly see himself getting minutes he believes he needs. This stint with ust might be his final chance to stay relevant. He'll be 23 by the time he becomes eligible with ust next year.

Yes. Sayang kid was really talented coming out of perp jrs. Was actually looking forward for him to suit uolp for the blazers this season. He'll join fellow phenom boys michael mara and ice danting in the ust player pool

How they play is completely within UP's control. Given all the advantages they have over everybody including the defending champions, I can't put DLSU as the favorites because of their 2 game skid.

If UP flips the switch and actually realized their immense potential, they're the title favorites bar none.

That part is befuddling to be honest as you'd expect UP's core to be more composed and resilient since they've been together on the last few Finals runs. But heck, Abadiano, Alarcon, Felicilda, Belmonte, Torculas (though he's recovering from an injury I think), etc have all regressed this season. I guess development isn't as straightforward as one would hope it to be.

I'm a little wary when assessing Team B performances as I've seen Gani and Udodo post monster numbers before during their time in Team B but look where they are now lmao. Players probably treat this as more of a scrimmage and conditioning thing.

Don't get me wrong and as a UP supporter, I would love to be proven wrong by this current squad but I just don't see how you flip a switch late into the season. Agree on how they play is within their control but their execution has been really off and you see it in the results (lots of TOs, horrible shooting). For such a strong team that has been a perennial contender the past few years, that is totally inexcusable.

It's really night and day when you see how DLSU executes (i.e. there are plays designed to free up their shooters, players know their roles - Raven, Macalalag, Vhoris, Dungo, Gollena are all high quality players). Then of course, you have the difference makers in KQ and Mike. The only real weakness in DLSU's lineup are probably Henry and Ramiro lmao

There is a two week break before the final four starts. Maybe that’s what UP needs to reset. On the other side, as a La Salle supporter I hate this break because it will halt their momentum. Imagine playing your last game of the eliminations on November 13, and not playing again until December 4. Wild.

UP’s recruits this year have unfortunately stunted the development of the other players. QMB’s arrival means it’s essentially two years on the bench for Sean Alter. Bayla took away minutes from guys like Alarcon and even Chicco Briones. I still believe the Bayla recruitment was a move UP didn’t need to make, when they could have just developed what they already have.

(EDIT: almost a three week break for DLSU, not just two)
