UAAP season 87

Hot take but the late addition of QMB messed up what was a nice development on the offseason for UP's bigs. Preseason games are good as an initial gauge but we all know when the lights are bright, that's where the best shine. UP playsaa scared these days (kinda miss the swag of the likes of Desiderio, the GDLs, Ricci, Zav, and Carl).

I still think Lebron can carve out a nice pro career but nothing generational. He won't go the showbiz route like Kobe lmao.

Not a hot take. It is clearly evident already. The entry of QMB stunted the growth of the other bigs. Lol

The confusing part is that practicing with an exceptional big man like QMB would have meant that Udodo, Stevens and Alter would've improved some more but the opposite happened. It's really a case one can analyze what went wrong with UP's campaign this year.

First of all: Season is not yet over. DLSU could very well lose to UP in the Finals, or worse, not even make the Finals.

Secondly, practice is very much different from actual games. I think you cannot replicate the atmosphere of playing in a UAAP game during practice. The lights, the hordes of opposing fans screaming--- some players just buckle under the pressure. It's not just UP players, Agunanne has been horrible as well and he wasn't that bad in the preseason. But unlike UP, Raven has been an able sub to Mike so Agunanne's so-so play isn't as magnified.

The three UP bigs really need actual game time.

If you watch dlsu play and observe Philips and Topex. Topex sometimes doesnt understand wth Philips does on defense . He plays on feel and doesnt really understand the team gameplan defensively. He is always out of positon and you can see it with Topex. His motor is crazy so he can make up for it but it must drive a guard nuts from hedging hard, doubling and dropping on screens. It might be exposed internationally with better bigs

From what i read its ryan alba, mo gingerich and christisn luanzon. The one with the mask looks like alba, known for his twitter activity.

Ryan Alba, that twittard user with some hot non-sense takes. A big fan of Josh Reyes. Acting like he is one of UP stakeholders in that action he did lol.

Their body language in-game says it all. Alam nila na nasapawan sila.

Alter is the biggest loser here, seemed to be developing as a dependable big but QMB's entry stalled his college career. Gani has been performing better lately but still below par from what he showed during his UE days. Ududo is just simply not ready, looks like a deer in the headlights kind of situation.

That's why games still have to be played but simply, DLSU will be heavy favorites going into the Final Four. Will be a massive disappointment if they don't repeat this year.

feu spending some money. i heard that they gave a brand-new car to one of their players and they increased the players' allowance hahah

There is a traffic gridlock in the brains of the UP coaching staff. They are letting the guards take control and shoot the lights out even if they are dead cold. Screens are not set up properly. They just rely on individual skills. QMB sealing his man and not getting the pass really is an eyesore. Goldwin should learn to play big since UP outsizes practically every uaap team. The coaches are not setting up Lopez properly. They just let him do straight line drives without a proper screen. This is also what happened with Paras. No one could stop him in the air but Perasol left him alone with screens that is why he had so many of those wild shots. This UP team under Tab would be spectacular. The key to stopping DLSU is actually Phillips. No one can match his tenacity. Take out Phillips, DLSU loses the crown.

Wishful thinking wouldnt a tab gold partnership be an awesome tandem for BG?

This is why the UP players knew who to target in Game 3 last year.

Phillips presents a lot of mismatches against any team.

Looks like Ex dlsu green archer Emman Galman has joined UST. He spent the last couple of years in limbo after reported moves to benilde and letran. Mostly spent the time playing for panalay games.

In the last game of the season, I wonder if UP will give the game away to UE if it means UE will be 4th seed in the Final Four. There's a scenario where this is possible.

New MVP/Mythical 5/ROY unofficial rankings

KQ and Mike Phillips are 1 and 2. Cabanero overtakes Padrigao for the last Mythical 5 spot. Veejay Pre extending his lead over Jared Bahay.

With only two game days left, KQ can't be overtaken so he will be the back-to-back MVP unless he gets DQd for some reason. Mike, Konateh and JD are also sure things for the Mythical five (unless they get DQd for some reason also).

The last slot in the Mythical 5 is the only one up for grabs. I think Cabanero deserves it.

This guy is good. Very talented. I actually thought he was better than Austria as an off the dribble shot creator. It's just that sometimes he loses his focus and plays too passive. Thats why Pumaren had to yank him in most games and he never really got his spot back in the 2nd round after Austria proved to be more consistent.

With major additions like Stevens, Bayla, and QMB, UP remains the favorite on paper. They’ve brought in a D1-caliber, 6’10” player while keeping most of their main roster intact.

Meanwhile, DLSU has lost key players: their primary PGs (Nelle and Nonoy), a versatile forward (Policarpio), downgraded their FSA to Henry, and lost their sharpshooter, Escandor—nearly their entire rotation.

Until we see UP at full strength with Final Four intensity, I still have them as the favorites.
