UAAP season 87

Pity the guy. Paranoia eating his brain. Haha It would be great to see both teams healthy. Of course, the finals is a whole different ballgame.

Talk about traffic again. Lol

Yeah it would be great if Abadam played but he's out too.

Lol my team won. Why always so defensive? Nobody is out to get you in this forum.

I had two separate points. First both wins by dlsu, UP was not complete with one of their best players out of the lineup. We have yet to see a UP play full force against dlsu this season.

Second with QMB out and likely disadvantaged, maybe they decided to hide their adjustments and spring a surprise in the finals instead.

That's literally the textbook excuse lmao. It's "mind games". "They have something up their sleeves." That is literally why their fans are the laughing stock of the UAAP.

Goldwin looking like he didnt even have a gameplan was just trying diffrent rotations.

Up’s backup PG looks like Carlos Yulo and played like ass

Thats pretty concerning if he's still rummaging through lineups at this point of the season. I mean the no gameplan thing is signature coach gold already. Imo they really need to get a consultant that can set up a proper sytem that can maximize their players skillsets.

question: did it really hurt UP to lose Jared Bahay before the season started?

He was still in crutches and he got hurt a couple weeks back. I dont think hes gonna make a comeback at any point this season

No. He will be their third string PG.

What hurts them is overreliance on QMB to the point where the play of Udodo, Alter and Stevens have regressed. Those there weren’t this bad in the preseason.

I'm aware. The context is DLSU did not have all their players available either.

With Brownlee being close to Gilas retirement, and AJ Edu's injury record not being the best, we need another good interior defender in Gilas next to Kai. Mike can be that guy. I hope we can get his exemption ready before JB retires, or before the 2027 World Cup.

Agree. If I'm to choose between Mike Philipps & QMB if only one of them gets FIBA excemption, I'll go for Mike Philipps. I think Philpps can play both the 4 & 5 positions for Gilas. He has the quickness, the laterals & mobility to patrol the perimeter & he's athletic enough to protect the rim. He may be a little undersized for the center position but I think in Asian level he can be our undersized center. As I once said, Lebanon's 6-foot-7 stretch four Ali Haidar sometimes plays as a center. I think Haidar & Mike Philipps are of the same height but Mike seems quicker & more athletic. Of course skill wise, Haidar is better than Mike.

Not sure how much Mike has improved. IRC he was a disappointment in the SEA games. Brandon Rosser outplayed him significantly. UAAP FSAs are tall and athletic but I dont think they are that strong. Fiba bigs are significantly stronger. With Mike’s body and skill level he might not be as effective as a legit international big like QMB.

I don't see QMB staying in the Philippines after his stint in UP is over. He's been here for what... less than a year? Unlike Mike who has a better chance of staying and being a mainstay in the National Team since he has been here since 2019, if I am not mistaken.

Between the NU game and UP game, it's not "tinago ang adjustments". There are none to begin with.

They had a full week to prepare for the game against DLSU, unlike DLSU who still had to play against FEU last Wednesday. QMB leaving wasn't a surprise if you knew the date his Lolo passed away and the date he left the Philippines. UP prepared for this game knowing QMB would not be around.

Bottomline is Goldwyn needs to stop giving token minutes to his NU boys against DLSU because they all seem to shit the bed against DLSU. Abadiano especially, last year pa yan ganyan against DLSU.

Udodo and Belmonte torched DLSU during Fil-Oil, they should have been used more.

Is Lebron the 2nd coming of Kobe Paras?

Hot take but the late addition of QMB messed up what was a nice development on the offseason for UP's bigs. Preseason games are good as an initial gauge but we all know when the lights are bright, that's where the best shine. UP playsaa scared these days (kinda miss the swag of the likes of Desiderio, the GDLs, Ricci, Zav, and Carl).

I still think Lebron can carve out a nice pro career but nothing generational. He won't go the showbiz route like Kobe lmao.

Gold does not know how to utilize Belmonte against DLSU. Always setting him up for failure.

He should utilize Belmonte the way DLSU utilizes Raven. Both are good players on offense, but very poor on defense.

The confusing part is that practicing with an exceptional big man like QMB would have meant that Udodo, Stevens and Alter would've improved some more but the opposite happened. It's really a case one can analyze what went wrong with UP's campaign this year.
