UAAP season 87

  • Thread starter Thread starter Silent Killer2
  • Start date Start date
QMB is like the center version of Gabe Norwood. He makes the right decisions, doesn't get out of position, and always on the play. Hoping he gets a long pro career and becomes eligible as a local for Gilas

Raven Gonzales is more skilled but Henry was the one that played vs UP due to the matchup. Cant teach height and Henry is the better athlete.

Raven is more skilled offensively, but cannot defend the likes of QMB or Tounkara.

Agunanne actually did a good job defending QMB.

Game should have ended earlier, but UP's problems still rears its ugly head.

UP has just so many weapons

UST is the best possible matchup for them among the final four contenders: no legit big man (Tounkara isn’t one), and poor team defense overall.

DLSU is the worst possible matchup for them because of KQ lol.

Fortea went nuts in the 4th quarter. UP's perimeter shooting was quite good in this game. Lopez sinking three 3-pointers was not in my bingo card lol

Tounkara proves yet again he is a legit FSA. Padrigao had some terrible shot selection in this game though.

UST fans like to blame Migs Pangilingan a lot but what they really need to maximize their potential is to have all three of Cabanero, Padrigao and Tounkara at their A game at the same time.

Observations on UST:

1. They need a legit big man who can defend. They’re really undersized and did well to stick to UP for 3 quarters, but the lack of big man depth will make it difficult for them to get past DLSU and UP.

2. Wings and guards need to have mid range shots in their arsenal. I can’t recall any one making any of those shots other than Cabanero

3. What has happened to Kyle Paranada? Between him and Gani Stevens, I can’t decide who has had a bigger downgrade in production since leaving UE. At least Gani got paid lol

I think Gani is out of position in UP. With QMB, Udodo and Alter, he has to play 4 and it hasnt been working out so far.

Paranada is undersized for his position. I dont think he's cut out to be a pg at this level. He's a shooting guard in point guard's body.

But he was effective in UE, wasn’t he? And had more playing time than Remogat when they were in the team together, or am I remembering this wrong?

I think what really hurt ateneo are the four that left early. Mason to DLSU, Kai Ballungay to the PBA, Gab Gomez and Jared Brown to IDK.

don't forget geo chiu. he may not be perfect but he is 6'9 and is better than all of their current centers. i doubt tab recruited porter to play the 5 but circumstances forced his hand.

He was solid but ue was really playing off him. But forced to play in a system where he needs to be a playmaker, he's just gonna struggle. If you compare his time to remogat's, the latter was the better fit thus having the better numbers.

the leap from year 1 remogat to year 2 remogat was something else.

back in the summer leagues during remogat's rookie year, he showed flashes of being a microwave scoring guard. he was the rookie loose cannon while paranada was coming out of a somewhat impressive, albeit winless (?) s84. after the UE exodus at the end of s85, remogat had a lot of opportunities to build on his impressive last 3 or so season 85 games.

I agree but what i like about remogat is that he's a willing playmaker. Besides leading ue with 16.5 ppg(paranada had 11 or 12 a game i think), remogat was also the league's leading assist man at 8 a game if i remember it right.
